Everything is subject to re-arranging as more furniture arrives but for now, I think I’ve created my perfect little knitting spot.
I love it for so many reasons. I can see out the window right next to my chair.
I can look across the room and see out the dining room window.
I can look straight ahead and see out the breakfast room/sun room windows and I can see Rita and know if she’s up wanting something.
That spot between Rita and the table – that’s where I was thinking Vince could set up a comfy chair if he wants to sit in there and visit with me while I’m cooking or sit by the window and drink his coffee. It’s such a big space. I hate to not do something with it. On the other side of the table is the same big space and that’s where two spinning wheels are set up.
On a cold day like this (or any day really), old Speck would have sat in my chair with me, under a quilt, all day. Rita will not. Yesterday I tried several times to hold her and she is kicking and pushing away. She does not want to be held at all and I hate that. I don’t know if it’s just her personality or something in her background but she is not a snuggly dog. Even with Vince, she will get up in his chair with him and maybe sit on his leg for 5 minutes so long as he ignores her but if he pets her or tries to hold her, she’s gone.
Over by my chair, I always have so much stuff and no matter how much I try to keep it organized, it’s always messy looking. I put all my necessary items in this little basket. First and foremost, my Vicks VapoRub, hand cream and lotion, a tape measure, scissors, the box with stitch markers, darning needles, etc., dental floss, pens, pencils, a small notepad.
The plan is that when I get up, I put the little basket in the entertainment center to my right and close it up.
This may not work out as well as I’m hoping because this side of the entertainment center is where the equipment to run the surround system and some kind of music setup will be housed. I have no idea if that’s all something we need to buy or if we already have it, nor do I have any idea how much space something like that takes up. There’s some kind of box behind my chair that I think runs the speakers but . . I stay out of all that. Just show me the off and on button and I’m happy. Right now, it’s just me and Tammy Wynette on Pandora.
Addie helped unpack some of the boxes for me and there are candles in the big part of the entertainment center, where a smaller TV would go but we’re not having a TV up here. I’m thinking I’ll put some books on the bottom shelves and stack quilts all the way to the top in the area where the TV would have gone. On the left side, I would like to use that for storage – candles, lanterns, flashlights, maybe even have a charging station in there for the phones, iPads, etc. I’m sure Vince will have some ideas too. I haven’t done anything permanent yet (not that anything is ever permanent around here) because those pieces (two sides to the center) all have to be bolted together and Vince will have to do that and I’m sure he’d rather everything be empty or somewhat empty when he does it.
Those speakers on the wall kinda bug me and I’d like to change them out for white or beige if they make such a think but they’re Bose and I doubt Vince is going to be willing to do that just because I don’t like the color. I think there are 8 of them around the room . . maybe 6. I only see 6 but there are 6 or 8 downstairs hooked up to the TV. Upstairs they’re going to be hooked up to music because there’s no TV upstairs. Yay!
You can see that hanging something over the entertainment center probably isn’t going to work with those speakers there. I think it might look kinda weird but if I could get some tall-ish featherly like arrangement up there that might camouflage those speakers, or at least the one closest to the entertainment center, I would be happy. Thinking about what will go up there is way down the road. I want to be sure we know things are staying where they are before I start buying stuff to decorate.
This room has either 12 or 14′ ceilings, which kinda adds a whole different aspect to decorating but again . . that’s down the road; not thinking about that now.
I’m happy to have my chair back where I’m looking out three different sets of windows instead of looking at a big brown piece of furniture.

I can picture some of your beautiful quilts folded and displayed in that spot where the TV would go. I have a big silk plant sitting on an pretty antique wooden chest in my empty entertainment center in one room. But I’ve been thinking about moving those and filling the spot with folded quilts.

I, too, love to be able to see out the windows from any chair I regularly sit in. Once I was reading a ‘decorator’ type blog and I noticed that the couch had its back to the window. I commented and asked what the couch was facing. She never answered, but I figured out that it was looking at the stairway and front door entry. Not what I would have chosen.
There looks to be upper shelves in the entertainment center – your little basket of necessities could go up higher perhaps.

It all depends on what Vince wants to put in there. If he fills it up, I can always put my little basket on the other side of the center and grab it when I’m fixing to sit down to knit and put it up when I’m done.
I’m with you .. give me a window view and I’m pretty happy.

This is a wonderful spot, with all of the window views and good lighting!

I think a quilt ladder with your quilts leaning against the wall behind your chair would be a great thing. I like them folded too. Just a thought ….

It is so much fun seeing you decorate and listening to your ideas. Keep sending us updates!

I wonder if you could spray POA it those speakers? I think I’ve got one I can try it on. I’ll let you know.
Sandi B says
PAINT!! My phone switched it to POA. GRRRR.

I’ve looked at them from just standing and it looks like all but the front is that meshy speaker type material and I bet painting would clog the pores and cause the sound not to be right. Maybe for Christmas, I’ll give Vince white speakers! 🙂
