First, you’ve probably never heard me mention crocheting because I really don’t know how to do it but . . how hard can it be, right? Wrong! I sit here and watch my wrist movement and think crochet should be an Olympic competition. I know I’m making this way harder than it should be but it’s a chance to get extra stars at Eat, Sleep, Knit. A pumpkin flash knit along.
They could be knitted pumpkins but I found a crochet pattern that was cute and there may be a badge or crochet. It takes me about a day and a half to make one crochet pumpkin and I get 1/2 star per pumpkin. They have to be submitted by 10/31 so my goal is to get six of them made by the deadline. I know that doesn’t come out to 1-1/2 days per pumpkin but I’m hoping to get faster. If I can do that many, that will give me 3 desperately needed stars if I’m going to finish this year’s Yarnathon.
I told Addie I would make one for her teacher so she picked out the yarn she wanted to use and I’ve started another pumpkin!

Too funny! I think knitting is much more difficult than crochet, although I love the beautiful shawls and sweaters that can be knit. It just isn’t possible to get that fine look with crochet. Hang in there, you’ll get all of those pumpkins done!

I agree. Ilearned to crochet as a child. Even after lessons a couple years ago, I still cannot get the hang of knitting.

I looked at patterns for pumpkins and one had cinnamon sticks as the vine. I made some a few years ago with autumn fabric. Easy to do.

There were quite a few that had cinnamon sticks for the stem. I have a drawer full of cinnamon sticks. No idea why I have so many but I’m happy to be able to use some of them for pumpkin stems.

I too learned to crochet when I was very young, about 5 or 6. I never learn to knit. A few years ago I was determined to learn at age 52, and took a class. We were taught the continental method. The instructor even said that if you can crochet and could never learn to knit, you are going to love this. I was able to learn and now knit socks all the time. Look it up.

i am left handed. I saw a cute crochet pattern of a snowman pin that I decided I would make a bunch of for the teachers with whom I worked. It was absolutely hilarious when my right handed mother would take the piece and try to fix a mistake I made as she tried to teach me. I finally took it home and learned to do it myself. I have never figured out how to knit, though. I simply cannot figure out how to change the directions to work left handed.

I hope you will show us your finished pumpkins, I bet they will be so cute!

Where did you get your pattern? I would love to make some of these for Alicia. She decorates for all the holidays due to her grands.
