You may remember that originally my chair where I sit to knit was on one side of the room but then Vince wanted to bring the entertainment center and a storage thing we already had. We discussed it and I didn’t want to do it but I lost that battle. I ended up having to move my chair to the other side of the room and I was really unhappy with it.
There’s one wall in the living room that we can work with. One side is a “wall” but it has the fireplace and two windows. One wall is open to the breakfast room; one wall is open to the dining room/foyer and one wall is a real wall. Putting that big entertainment center, to me, just darkened the room and made it seem cold and closed.
The piece that Vince wanted to use for the surround sound equipment was just awful. I think it’s something he’s had for about 40 years. When we talked the other day, I told him I had a compromise to discuss. Really I wanted both the entertainment center and the other piece out. My compromise was this: Get rid of the piece he wanted to use for the equipment. Keep the entertainment center. On one side, put the equipment. On the other side we could put some books, lanterns, candles – things we do want to keep handy in case we need them. Keep both those sides closed. The two doors can either close off the center or close off both sides and leave the center open. I would keep the middle open and put quilts in there. That would brighten it up a bit. He agreed. I told him I wasn’t promising I’d be ok with it but I was willing to give it a try. He was happy with that idea.
Yesterday Chad and Nicole came by. They moved out the piece I wanted out, centered the entertainment center with the ceiling fan, which is the center of the room but not the center of the wall. Once that was done, I realized I could put my chair back in the original position which made me really happy.
I would like to get something tall to put on top of the entertainment center – tall and maybe with something red in it to tie the dining room red with the family room.
The problem for me was that with my chair in the other spot, I was facing that brown entertainment center. With my chair back where it was, this is what I see:
The foyer and the dining room windows. I keep the blinds open til about 3 when the afternoon sun starts heating up that side of the house.
And I see the windows in the breakfast room and out into the sun room. I like being able to see out so I’m happy with the new arrangement. When the other recliner gets here, we’ll put it where I had my chair and there will be room for the end table to be back upstairs.
I think it will be a win/win – we’ll both be happy.
I will get a basket to put by my chair and keep my knitting project in there when I’m not working on it. Progress . . slow but sure.

Have you considered hanging a quilt or large painting or portrait over the entertainment
Center? I’m sure you have some great quilts to display.

I have never liked hanging quilts on walls. I do have several large paintings but I’m going to put one over the fireplace and a larger mirror on the foyer wall, which is the same wall as the entertainment center is on so I don’t think I want to hang anything large there but I’ll wait to see how it looks once I get the other things up. I was thinking of something tall to stand on the middle portion. I have four framed prints that an old friend brought me from Paris many years ago and I’m thinking of hanging two of those over each of the smaller sides. We’ll see how it all looks but I’m nowhere near the point of hanging things on the walls yet.

How about a red floral arrangement in a pretty vase? Or a large red vase with a floral arrangement in it? I think that would look pretty there!
