It seems somewhat weird to me that we spent two months packing and they loaded it all in six hours! These are local movers and they all work together every day so they really seem to have it together – much more so than some of the “professional” movers who hire locals they’ve never worked with.
I had anticipated they would arrive Wednesday but Vince said they’re expecting to be here today around noon. If I’m calculating the work time/rest time hours right, I think they could be here before noon so I’m getting up, getting dressed and if they show up any time after 6, I’ll be ready for them.
They said they usually unload faster than they load so, in theory, they could be done in 4 or 5 hours. That’s just hard to believe but, Vince isn’t sure they’ll drive on the grass. They can drive down one side of the yard and that will put them closer to the basement doors but if they don’t want to drive on the grass, they’re going to have to haul everything from the road and that will slow them down.
One thing for sure . . by tonight, I’ll be living in a sea of boxes that all need unpacking!

They do unload quicker. at least, that is my experience. and they probably won’t drive on the grass.

The only reason I think they will is that when they moved us from the rental to the house we bought in Texas, they did drive on the grass. If they don’t, it’s going to take a while because almost this whole load is basement stuff. We’ll know in a few hours.

Good luck today! With all the moves I made over the years with husband in the Air Force, I agree, they will unload much much faster! If most of your things are in boxes that will go even quicker! There were times when I was the only one there and if there are more than two guys it will be a whirlwind of activity! Even telling them where things go sometimes things end up in different rooms. But….it will all be okay! Be kind to yourself! You got this!

Vince gave them a drawing of the house with each room marked to match the rooms written on the boxes. I think our biggest problem is going to be that we’re going from a one story house to a two story house. I think they tried to load it mostly with things from the sewing room to go in the basement together and things from the house to go on the main level together, there are some things that are mixed up, simply because they were trying to get the weight right in the truck. Freeze dryer for instance is super heavy; all the jars of home canned food is super heavy so they had to arrange as best they could for the weight. If they have the truck down by the basement doors and come to something that goes upstairs, they’ll move it to the side and unload it when they bring the truck back to the street in front at ground level to the main living area. I’m sure this isn’t the first time they’ve dealt with this.

Sounds like they know what they are doing.

Those guys are local for you and they are good. They moved us from the rental house to the house we bought 9 years ago. I highly recommend them.
