In Texas, I’m constantly vacuuming up dirt, leaves and tiny rocks that come in on shoes. I thought we had a rule of not wearing shoes in the house . . take them off outside and put them on a rack when you walk in the door but apparently we don’t have that rule.
In MO, we have a garage so I have a flat tray like thing I bought at Aldi last year for the apartment because you walked in onto carpet there. I brought it here, put it in the garage and asked Vince to take his shoes off in the garage and put them on that tray, especially if they are wet.
Yesterday morning, I woke up to this:
I didn’t even say anything to him but that looks like there had been several trips in and out, lots of leaves and dirt on the rug. Dang it!
A lot of it is because of the dirt work we just had done but I think we’re going to have to have another discussion about wearing shoes inside the house. By the way, those are his slippers that he bought to keep inside and wear only inside and my guess is . . they’ve been outside but that’s purely speculation on my part.

I think you need a darker mat inside that door.

I’d say that’s educated speculation!
I remember years ago reading a letter to Dear Abby about friends who had the effrontery to ask visitors to remove their shoes! Abby pointed out that some cultures ALWAYS do that. If only John didn’t always wear lace-up shoes, I’d like that for my house…so much cleaner! In lieu of that, there are the mats inside the door–looks like yours is a good leaf-catcher!

Looks like slippers to me. Maybe he forgot to take them off before he went outside and forgot to put the outside shoes on once he got there?

So it is not just my husband who does this. I clean floors on Monday and Monday afternoon I can trail him where he has been in the house. And I do have a rug at both doors to catch dirt and leaves. And he does not know how to attach himself to the vacuum cleaner.

The Saturdays my husband works outside are the days I don’t vacuum until he has come in for the night. I can’t stand having grass and dirt scattered on freshly vacuumed carpet…

At least it looks like he’s coming and going thru the same door. We have 4 doors that will get Bob outside, his workshop, the garage and the patio. It doesn’t matter what he’s doing or where he’s going he never comes and goes thru the same door. Drives me nuts. LOL

I once tried to implement “house rules” [I call them thoughtfulness & consideration for the one that does all the cooking, cleaning, etc] but these days am so tired of the “fight” that I’ve given up.
