Breakfast With The Family

I’m pretty much past the point of questioning if we’re doing the right thing or not. It was July 6 at 9:18 a.m. when I sent an email to Vince, with the link to the listing and I said “I found a house I think we would both love!” By 6:00, Vince had talked to the seller and said “We’ll take it!” I think the seller, his wife and both of us were in shock. What had we done? We hadn’t even seen the house. We didn’t know the area. We weren’t really ready to do this but yet, we were doing it.

Since then, I’ve questioned myself daily at first, then every other day, and gradually feeling more confident in our decision til now . . I think we’re both good with it all. Kinda doesn’t matter at this point . . it’s done, right?

The things I questioned were giving up the privacy and the secluded homesite, giving up Vince’s shop, the chickens, the garden, the wells, the fruit trees. On the other side of all those positives were the negatives, we were so secluded that I really felt like we had gotten to the point that we were just existing there. Vince hasn’t worked in his shop to do anything creative or constructive much at all. It’s a big storage shed, mostly full of stuff we’ll never use and I think it’s all become a weight around his neck. Vince never wanted the chickens, the garden and definitely not the work that goes along with the fruit trees.

This morning Chad and Nicole were coming to Joplin to do some shopping. I asked them if they wanted to swing by for breakfast and they said yes. Addie was with her other grandma so it was just the four of us.

It was nice. Sorry Chad has his glass up to his face. I had to snap the photo before he said NO!!

We had eggs, biscuits, tater tots and sausage, along with pear preserves, peach jam and plum jelly from the fruit trees.

Once they’re done shopping, they’re going to pass back by and pick up a bed, chest and night stand that we don’t need.

This is the life I’ve wanted for so long – not too close but just close enough. When they go the back way to Joplin, we’re not 10 miles out of their way. Perfect!!

See this is why you did this. And it is all worth it. Believe me, you both needed to be where you could get emergency services ASAP. Heaven forbid that something happens to you, but at least you will not be there by yourselves and you have neighbors near enough to be able to let them know you are not ok.

It’s the nearness of the family that makes the difference. New things to do with them!

It’s these little things like a casual meal with family that brought you back. To me, this is priceless.
