Sit down. You’re going to laugh. I’m probably admitting how very shallow I am but right now, I’m as frustrated as I’ve been about this move and as soon as I finish writing this post, I’m going to say “Did I really just say that?”
Maybe I’m frustrated, tired, still don’t feel good because of those two shots Monday . . maybe I am a shallow person.
There’s a knit along that starts tomorrow that I REALLY wanted to do. I didn’t know about it, or maybe I did and wasn’t thinking about it, before we let Texas so all the yarn options I have are the skeins that are here with me in MO . . and that’s not much!
I need about 650 yards of fingering weight yarn. That would be two skeins of most fingering weight yarns. What I really want is a gradient. I have plenty in Texas . . packed! I’d never find them and if I started ripping into boxes, Vince would not be happy.
I dug through the one tote of yarn I have here, along with the one trash bag of yarn and this is what I found. All of my beads are here, which makes it even harder because how would I know which beads to take home IF I were to find yarn there?
The two yarns on the left are Madelinetosh Twist Light, which is 25% nylon, which isn’t the best candidate for a lacy shawl. The one on the right is Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, which is a good candidate but I’ve made three dark green shawls (or started them) recently.
I have been wanting to make a black shawl so I said . . I’m just going to do it but now I’m not sure. It isn’t the best choice and I think I’d be sorry. It isn’t like I don’t have a bunch of projects started that I need to finish . . I think I’m going to have to sit this one out.

I think it’s just your brain, always going cooking, packing, traveling and all. There will be time to do the shawl, when you are settled and can pick just the right yarn. Life will return to “normal” soon!

I think that black would be beautiful and would go with so much but I don’t knit so what do I know. As said above the will be time later. Just work on one you’ve already started for now..

Working with a knit along is a great motivator for me to stay on track and finish quickly. If I don’t do it with the knit along, I probably won’t ever make that pattern – but there will be others.

A black shawl would be beautiful and would go with most any outfit. Go for it!!
Judy Laquidara says
The problem is that the black yarn is 25% nylon and the lace isn’t going to block as well. 100% wool or something with silk would work much better so I’m going to wait til I get back to Texas and find something to use.
Dottie Newkirk says
Go for the black – it will look beautiful!
Sue Edberg says
Go for the black yarn and beads in the last photo. I love a black sweater so I would love a black shawl as it will go with so much. You’ll definitely get a lot of use from it. Jump in with both feet!
Nelle Coursey says
I think you are overworked right now! If you feel like doing it, then do it. But if you think it is too much to take on right now, don’t do it. You can always do the next one.
Rebecca says
There is always a next one, isn’t there?
Bon says
Sitting it out would be a very good choice. You probably really don’t need it . And like you said, you have lots of projects started.
Susan Nixon says
You can’t do everything, so prioritize. This is probably a low priority right now. You can come back and do it later, I would presume. If you still wanted to, once the rush of pushing to do it is gone.
Judy Laquidara says
You’re right and I’ve talked myself out of doing the KAL. I think I was using that as a diversion from the packing that really does have to get done.
