We don’t miss a Saturday at the Farmers’ Market when we’re in MO. That is something I really look forward to doing. Addie went with us this morning. If we were already living here, she and I would have gone wild buying pumpkins and mums but since no one is here to water them, I didn’t buy mums and since deer are likely to make a mess with the pumpkins, I didn’t buy those either.
We got mushrooms from two different vendors – gray oysters (far left) from one buy; pink/gray oysters and portabella from from the vendor we always buy from. We got green eggplant, cucumbers, red tomatoes, purple tomatoes, bell peppers, mustard greens, homemade bread (that was Vince). Addie found the fried pie lady and she got chocolate. Vince got strawberry rhubarb. I got gooseberry. They were so good. Addie wants to know if we can still til next Saturday so she can go back and get more fried pies.
I’m thinking BLTs for dinner.

Happened to think of this the other day, whatever happened to the mushrooms Vince was preparing/planting ? Did that ever work out?
Judy Laquidara says
Didn’t work out. 🙁
Linda in NE says
Maybe Vince can try his mushroom farming again in Missouri where it isn’t so dry.
Judy Laquidara says
Maybe.
Dottie Newkirk says
Yummy!
Ruth says
What did Vince do with all that paraffin wax he bought?
Judy Laquidara says
Still has it.
Nelle Coursey says
I like Addie’s idea!!

I love farmers markets. We have 5 here in season, and one of those is year round. But you have many more options at yours than we do! So glad you can enjoy a lovely market like that.
Judy Laquidara says
The Farmers’ Market here is open Tuesday evening, Thursday (morning I think) and Saturday morning during the main growing season. They’ve already stopped the Thursday market and by winter, will stop the Tuesday market but the Saturday market is open all year. That Farmers’ Market is definitely one of the highlights of my time in MO.

What wonderful memories for Addie! Farmer’s market with the grands – lovely. And fried pies – oh memories of my own childhood at Mamo’s!
