How long has it been since I shared a picture of quilts? These are older quilts but . . they’re quilts!
Vince told me he found a box upstairs in the shop and it had a couple of quilts in it. I cannot imagine how a box of quilts got let upstairs for nine years! Mice, bugs, heat . . not good. Vince assured me that the box had not had any mice in it (I don’t believe it!) but there were some dirt dauber nests on some of the quilts. Those darned things carried their little mud balls and found a spot where they could get into the box.
There were actually five quilts in the box. I put two in the washer and took pictures of the other three. Now, two more have been washed. I’ll get pictures of the first two tomorrow.
This one may be big enough for a queen bed so it may go on our bed.
This one is small . . obviously just using some scraps.
This is one I made in several different color combinations. Here it is in my favorite purple/green/gold combo.
I suppose, when I can not see five quilts for nine years and not even miss them, that I have too many quilts.
The good news is that also in the box was a down comforter that I had searched for since we left MO nine years ago. It’s lightweight but yet very warm. Since we like to sleep with the windows open on cold nights in Texas, I had wished for that comforter and gave up on ever finding it but there it was . . in the bottom of that box!
That gives me hope that I will find the cookie molds . . some day.

Thank you. 🙂

I’ve been wondering if you have found your cookie molds. My daughter now has the molds that my great grandfather brought from Germany. My mother made Springerle every year for Christmas.

The hope that the cookie molds will turn up keeps me on the edge of my seat!

Even though purple is my favorite color, I just love the patern of the first quilt. Just what I like – nice and symetrical, like back in the day. While I admire some modern quilts, the old standards will always be my favorite. And I have faith that you WILL find those cookie molds. The problem will be finding them again when you get to MO!! 🙂 🙂

I so hope you return to quilting, you were my inspiration to quilt for a long time.
Love the first photo quilt.

The star quilt at the top is stunning!! Is that one of your designs? Wow!

Hurry back to Missouri. We turned off the A/C and opened windows yesterday. I threw an extra quilt on top last night. It was 56 this morning. Suppose to be in the 40’s tomorrow morning!
Judy Laquidara says
I cannot wait. I’ve already looked ahead to see what the weather will be like when we’re there next.

the other commenters and i agree — that first quilt is a stunner! i too began following you as a quilter, i don’t even know how i found you but i clearly remember “the lime green kitchen.” you inspired me so much with your quilts, i even used (with your permission) one for a BOM in our small guild. i’d always hoped that knitting was just a distraction, but even without quilts i’ve kept up with your blog and all the numerous adventures. i tell your stories often and will have to switch from “the gal in texas whose blog i follow” to “the gal in mo whose blog i follow.” amazing how interconnected one can feel with only reading a blog…

I LOVE the first quilt! I love the design and the white space! I’ve followed you since a little before the Joplin tornadoes, clearly with a link to your quilting which was sent to me by my daughter.
I chuckle with the discoveries you are making as you sort and pack. Losing things in my own house drives me crazy – celebrate each find!

I love all of those quilts, just beautiful! I’ve been following you since the early days of one of the quilt forums, I think it was Quilting @ About.com

The quilts are awesome! I too started following you back in your quilting days. I’m so happy you found your comforter. There is nothing like lightweight and WARM!
Now you get to pack them all up (ducking so I don’t get slapped 😉
Judy Laquidara says
There’s only so much packing I can do in a day. I usually pack from about 6 a.m. til 11 a.m.; then again from about 3 p.m. til 7 or 8 p.m. The biggest problem now is finding a place for more boxes!

I am betting that Addie will discover your 2d one and use it as a lap quilt when she is at your house!
I bet you will come across those cookie molds/cutters when you least expect to and have a great laugh at where they were!
Judy Laquidara says
It is going to be really funny when I do find them and they have to be somewhere that either I’m sure I didn’t put them, or somewhere right in front of my face and I’ve overlooked them 1,000 times.
TuNa Quilts says
I’m curious. You didn’t say how well the quilts washed up. Did they leave evidence of the mud nests? I too started following you during your quilting days and have remained a follower because I like your writing style. You tell it as it is. I do think if we lived closer, I would want to be your friend. Those lucky gals on MO.
Judy Laquidara says
The quilts washed fine and no evidence of the mud nests. I pulled it off so there was just a bit of dirt left on it — it’s just dirt mixed with water. It would be fun to be friends! I hope I find friends there.

These are a very pretty, and I hope they get a showing around the house. There is no such thing as too many quilts.
Nelle Coursey says
WOW this is just like Christmas at your house!! Making old things new again!! I have a feeling you are going to find the cookie molds!!
Rebecca in SoCal says
I’m sure you’re going to find those cookie molds, but I wonder what you will “lose” in this move! (Another duck to avoid a slap).Although with your spreadsheets, maybe…nothing! Just don’t forget about Addie’s gifts up there out of reach. You’re going to be putting a lot of things in new places before Christmas!
Judy Laquidara says
That’s why I put the gifts on the blog. I can go back and check if I do forget. I’m trying to be careful and put the things I know I will need first together in boxes and I’m labeling those with a pink Sharpie so I can hopefully dig those boxes out first. I am promising myself that the boxes will all be unpacked as soon as possible.
Sherry in NC says
Judy, you’ll find friends wherever you go. You have a wonderful personality and such great stories! That’s why we all love you. And Vince, too.
Donna in KS says
You will make new friends just because you are so outgoing and friendly, not to mention several other attributes, intelligence and discernment among them. And please don’t forget there are a few old friends you will be closer to geographically! A neighbor texted me, ‘do you have a glue gun? may I borrow it? I cannot find mine”. I texted back, “I do. You may. Just as soon as I find it”. Almost nine years and there are a few things still hiding from me!!
