If I had the yarn with me for this sweater, I would have cast on already. That’s how much I love it . . or, is it just another new project and I love starting new projects? Don’t answer that . . please!
I have one trash bag of yarn and one tub of yarn with me. The tub has only fingering weight yarn so I didn’t bother with getting that one out. The trash bag has mostly sport weight and a bit of DK weight yarn. It’s DK weight that I need. For the size I’m planning to make, the pattern says I need 1,650 yards.
I found this. It’s Madelinetosh DK Twist, which would be perfect. It has 250 yards per skein and I have six skeins so that’s 1,500 yards.
There’s no way I’d ever get a good match if I ordered more yarn so I can rule that out.
There is someone who made the same size I’m wanting to make and she reports having used 1,397.7 yards. Bless her heart. She’s way more accurate with her measurements than I am. That gives me hope that I could make it with this yarn but I’m not going to try until I’ve ruled out all other possibilities.
Someone else made a size 1, which calls for 1,120 yards and she reports that she used 972 yards so that tells me the designer has padded the yarn by about 10% which is normal.
One last possibility . .
I shouldn’t admit this but . . this is the yarn I’m using to make Vince’s sweater. I had all the yarn for his sweater, then brought it with me to the apartment once to work on it, forgot the yarn there, got home and wanted to work on it so I ordered more yarn. I can’t remember how much extra I have and if using enough to make the cocoon would cause me to run short on his sweater, which isn’t finished but isn’t going to fit until he loses more weight again, but it’s Cascade 220 and there’s more in stock and the colors pretty much always are a very close match with this yarn.
This yarn is worsted weight but I can come close with the gauge. It isn’t my first choice for this project but I am determined not to order yarn ever again so if all my DK weight yarn is already packed, and I can’t find anything that accidentally got left out, I’ll use this Cascade.
Now the question is . . do I bring it back to Texas with me or leave in MO and try to finish some projects in Texas and not start this til I come back??
I’m going to leave it in MO. It’s crazy to take anything back that will just have to be moved. Besides, I don’t have much knitting time in Texas . . pack, pack, pack . . so that’s it . . the Cascade yarn is staying. The only thing I’m taking back with me is the mystery knit along yarn (The Sharon Show) and Addie’s socks.

Your colors, either one, would put the drape of Cocoon to rest and show off all those beautiful stitches.

Beautiful colors!
