I’ve had the Highlander for 13 years and a few months. I read every owner’s manual we have – washer, dryer, car, toaster oven – maybe not the TV since I don’t use the TV.
Obviously, reading comprehension must not be my strong point.
Yesterday I was going to meet Nicole halfway between here and there to hand Addie off to her. We were driving along. Addie was in the middle row of seats. I heard her flip on a light. I asked her not to turn it on because we might forget that it’s on and it would run the battery down. She explained that she was turning it to off. The options are on, door, and off.
I then explained to her that I wish the front lights .. map lights are probably what they’re called, had an off switch because sometimes when I have the doors open for a long time, I’m afraid they will run the battery down. I explained that when I’m making the trip to MO, and carrying things out to the car, I’ll leave a door open and might get sidetracked and the lights may stay on a long time. I told her that the lights over her seat and the lights in the very back all have “off” options but the ones in the front, which are kinda big and bright, don’t.
In my defense, these lights also don’t have an “on” button. You push the light and it comes on. You open any door and it comes on and stays on til the door closes.
Addie said “Well, you have it set to door. If you turn it to off, I bet it doesn’t come on when the door is open.” WHAT? I never saw that off setting and it is right where I see it every single time I hit one of those three buttons to open the gate or a garage door! I have tried holding the light down, hitting it twice . . I never ever saw that “off” was an option.
Yes, that’s what it does. In the “off” position, the lights don’t come on when the door is open.
Think what I might discover if I keep that car another 13 years. It was just a few months ago that I figured out how to repeat a song on the CD player. You see why I don’t need a new car!

LOL!!! Don’t you hate being educated by a child??? ?

Definitely . . and her next statement was “This just proves that I (Addie) know everything about cars and you (me) know nothing!”

People think differently, that’s for sure! You, as the driver, don’t often tilt your head back and read the switches in the ceiling of your car. You’re busy trying to drive correctly. Addie is sitting in the back and is shorter than you (I think!), so she is at the right height to see the switches. Besides, both of you were just talking about switches. That may be the only time you have explained your trouble with switches to anyone else in your car. So “Lightbulb!”

The three buttons on top of the lights, right by the switch are for garage doors and our gate so I look at that area every time I drive into the garage or the gate! I obviously do not pay much attention because since she showed it to me yesterday, I’ve asked myself a dozen times how I never saw that in 13 years!

My friend offered to buy me a iPhone the other day. I told her I use my phone for calls only. I really appreciated the offer but I don’t like learning new things and when I just use it for a phone, I don’t need a iPhone! I think she Just wants me to have email and messenger with me all the time. Heck I don’t even take my phone into the bedroom at night! LOL
Judy Laquidara says
I have everything on my phone and I never take my phone into the bedroom at night unless I’m by myself.
