My goal had been to have the big closet empty except for the freeze dryer by the end of today. That didn’t happen.
As soon as we can get everything out of this closet, take all the shelving racks apart, we can start stacking boxes in the closet. Right now, there are boxes everywhere and with a room that was already crowded, we’ve kinda boxed ourselves into a tight spot, literally.
Vince was working on his stuff most of the day so my packing went more slowly than yesterday. I hadn’t expected him to help except for moving heavy stuff but he spent the entire day yesterday helping and that made a huge difference. He packed most all of the freeze dried foods that I had stored in Mason jars.
Today he’s listed more stuff for sale and most of it sold immediately. He had 6 bags of pine shavings that we had used in the chicken coops; sold that right off. A guy had wanted the chipper and finally came by and got it; he listed the second tiller and sold it. This is the first time since we’ve been married that we don’t have a tiller. That’s kinda sad. He listed his big power washer and sold it. He listed a shooting bench and sold it.
He had already sold two washer and two dryers, the tractor, a bunch of T-posts, some fencing, a big barrel type grill/smoker. I can’t remember what all he’s sold but it’s been a lot. He asked me today . . what are you going to sell? Nothing. I need everything I have. 🙂
Someone just came down the driveway to look at something else and I don’t even remember what it was. I’d like to say that selling all this has made a dent in the amount of stuff in the shop but it really hasn’t. There’s so much.

I don’t envy you that amount of work!! I’m tired just thinking about it!!

I think I wake up tired every morning but it has to be done and it’s what I wanted so . . I continue packing. Most everything that I’m responsible for packing, except the kitchen, is packed. Once I finish the sewing room, I’ll tackle the kitchen and by then, maybe it will be cool enough to pack the upstairs in the shop.

It’s looking good!
Are there screws for the shelves? If so, how are you stashing them so you can find them? I wouldn’t trust taping them to the units, since in a moving truck they could get lost. Since the shelves are an important part of your sewing room & unpacking, I am the type that would double bag them and tape them in my suitcase so they don’t get lost!
Once you get upstairs in the shop, you might find some stuff to sell. Since you don’t have a tiller, you should suggest to Vince to get a snow blower for your driveway. Of course, if he buys one, you won’t get any snow for many years….
How are the cats? Is Boots freaking out with all the packing? Have you seen Cat recently?
Oh, is that wine I see on the back of the shelves? I’d be having a glass or two every night and not bothering to move them. You might sleep better.
Judy Laquidara says
No screws. The shelves have little round things that fit over the legs and snap in place and that’s what holds each shelf up. There are “ridges” in the legs so the shelves can be placed anywhere we want them. Don’t forget, these shelves have been moved at least five times. We have probably 20 sets of them so we tape four sets of legs together, take a small box and put all the parts in the box. The shelves stack or the movers stand them up wherever they have room. Don’t anticipate any problems with the shelf units.
Our driveway isn’t long. They really don’t get that much snow there. One neighbor is a teacher and she was already complaining that they haven’t had a snow day in several years. They also said there are people coming by who will take care of the driveway for a fee but when it does snow, it doesn’t usually last more than a day or so and we’d just stay in and wait or it to be gone. All our vehicles are 4 wheel drive so a little snow isn’t going to be an issue and it’s a nice, flat driveway.
If we drank a bottle of wine every night, we wouldn’t make a dent in it before we go. 🙂
I saw Cat once. She knows something up and we aren’t seeing her at all. Boots is freaking out. He gets in every box, on every shelf, under our feet. I’m trying to spend extra time with him. He knows something is up and he seems nervous.

I agree about the wine. You two definitely deserve a glass or two each evening after all that work packing. 🙂
Susan Nixon says
Wow. Vince selling stuff! This is a red-letter time in your life. =)
Judy Laquidara says
Yes! And so far, not buying replacements!
Nelle Coursey says
that is a lot of work and if I was not feeling so bad I would volunteer to come help you. I know it is hard deciding on what to keep and what to throw away! I am glad I don’t have to make that decision right now. Although I have been going through a few things and I am making sure they get to the right person.

Hey, Judy. I know you are too busy right now but when your life ever slows down (ha!!!) put The Earth Moved by Amy Stewart. It’s a fascinating book about earth worms. It will relieve your anxiety of having a tiller. Well….you may need a tiller initially to break ground but she has an argument I choose to adopt, which is obviously self serving, that you shouldn’t till ground and disrupt the earth worms in your garden soil. I like believing that she’s right. 🙂 Just dig the hole for the next plant and quit worrying about tilling up an entire row.

We have a snow blower, a nice one. Husband calls it insurance!

This is
a dumb question but how do you move a loaded freezer? I assume you are taking that with you? I have never moved farther than across town and that was in 1977.
Judy Laquidara says
You do not! It has to be empty, defrosted and totally dry before the movers will take it.
