The movers came out this afternoon for the estimate. I was surprised that they think they can get it all in one trip. We had planned two and I’ll still be surprised if it all fits in one load but . . we can hope. They have a 40′ gooseneck trailer and we’ll get a 26′ U-Haul truck. We have to have it all packed in boxes or bags and they’ll load it on the trucks, drive it to MO and unload it.
Packing it all in boxes is going to take forever. I asked my mail lady today why she brought all this yarn to my house!! As of now, we’re scheduled to move the week of October 12.
Four or five months ago, we had put a down payment on half a beef that isn’t going to be ready til sometime late October. It would be hard to get that much meat to Missouri so we called the rancher and he had someone else wanting half a beef sooner than he could get it to them so he called them and they are reimbursing us our deposit and taking our beef.
We’re making progress . . now if I can just get the fabric and yarn packed in the next five or six weeks.

Have you packed your kitchen? I mean, pack what you want to move now and only keep the minimum in dishes, glasses, pans, etc? Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like the bedrooms have been packed up.
If I remember correctly, you have a loft in Vince’s side of the building. Are you planning to move all of it or pare it down? I hope you find your cookie molds somewhere in those boxes. Will the movers bring the boxes down those stairs or will you have to do it?
What news on the LA crowd?
Judy Laquidara says
I have moved about two thirds of the kitchen stuff. We don’t have a freezer there, except what’s in the two fridges so most of the frozen food is still here and we haven’t moved any of my home canned food. I’ll take as much of that as I can in the next trip. The things upstairs that are cooking related, I’ll pack and bring. The stuff that’s Vince’s . . I don’t know what he’ll do.
Still no power and most o Lake Charles doesn’t have water. My parents have more damage than they had heard. They’ve rented a place near Houston til things get better in Lake Charles. Dad had some tarp his roof today. Hoping a generator and big window unit arrives tomorrow to try to dry things out inside but it doesn’t sound good or their house. They have broken windows and even some bricks blown off the house.
My uncle probably got the trees off his roof today and had someone who was going to put plywood over the broken windows/open walls.
Chad is there working and after spending one night in Texas, one night in Metairie, one night in the truck, one night in Covington, and one night in Baton Rouge, they’ve finally gotten a room at a nice, safe hotel in Lake Charles. No power but they’re have generators providing air conditioning and running dehumidifiers because a lot of the roof blew off during the storm and water came in. They don’t have hot water but cold water is better than no water. I think they will get to stay there for the duration – so much better than driving 3 – 4 hours one way for a hotel.

When we moved we found that the least expensive place to get boxes was Home Depot. Do you have one of those around?
Judy Laquidara says
Home Depot was less on some sizes, UHaul was less on other sizes but the best deal was that the folks who sold us the house had some amazingly thick perfect size boxes from his job and as they unpacked, they brought us all their boxes and I brought home about three car loads of those.
Shery in NC says
Here in NC, a good place to get decent size boxes, is the liquor store. Ours gets stocked on Wednesday and Friday. They let you have them for free just to get rid of them. I use them every time I move. Not too big or heavy.
