It’s hard to believe we’ve been in MO almost two weeks. Vince is ready to back to Texas and get more packing done. I told him he could leave me here. I’ll keep Rita and he can go back and work without us getting in his way. I’m fine with him taking the car and me staying here without a car but he won’t agree to it.
We’ve gotten a lot done but there are still a few more things we have to accomplish before we leave.
Locks:
The locks are all just the flip type bolts and Vince wants the outside locks to be changed to double cylinder (keyed) deadbolts. The locks are ordered. They were supposed to be here Friday but didn’t come in so we’re hoping they come in Monday and Vince can get them all installed within a day or two.
Tree Trimmer:
There are two Bradford pears . . big ones . . at the end of the driveway and two Capital pears right over the deck. Those trees are made for splitting and causing damages so we have a couple of guys we’re waiting on getting estimates from to either cut those completely or do some major trimming to them.
Plumber:
We have a plumber hopefully coming Monday to add a cut off valve for the water. He’s also going to look at adding the gas line for the stove. I’ve cooked on the electric stove two weeks. I’m about at my limit! The stove is fine. I love how easy it is to clean but I struggle cooking without using my cast iron. I told Vince yesterday . . I’ve tried but now I’m using the cast iron and if I ruin the stove . . that’s just sooner I get gas. He said he’d go ahead and put the gas line in for the stove and we’ll “wait” on switching the stoves. I’m fine with that. At least if I break this one, all we have to do is buy a new one and the line will already be there.
We’ve hung a few curtains .. I’ll get pictures and do another post on that.

you might want to check out the oven/stove you want availability. they are in short supply in the Dallas area. A friend ordered and it kept being delayed for weeks.
Judy Laquidara says
I’ve already checked and can get one delivered in a day or so.

Judy, my stove oven died. (Gas, 16 yrs old) and would cost too much to repair. I could not get a Maytag from anyone in a week, more like 6 weeks. Ended up with an LG, convection etc. Will match my fridge. Also ordered a new dishwasher, also LG. Feel our old Maytag may be dying as well. My kitchen will all match except for my white microwave. I use my microwave for cooking rice, an occasional baked potato, melting butter, boiling water, making oatmeal, making my winter tea. Cooking veggies. Reheatig leftovers. I really do use my microwave.
We are BBQing tonight – everything! New stove being delivered tomorrow morning.

if your cook stove is a glass top I have used my cast iron on it for the past fifteen years no issues
Judy Laquidara says
I did in KY and MO but I definitely saw signs of wear. My owner’s manual says not to use it so I’m not going to, at least not til I have that gas line in and know for sure I can get the stove I want to replace it.
Val says
Judy I have been using my cast iron cookware on my glass top electric stove for 14 years. Why is cast iron a problem?
Judy Laquidara says
It’s your call – my manual recommends against it. After having used a gas stove for 9 years, an electric stove doesn’t cut it for me though. I want a stove that gets hot fast, goes off instantly and can cook even when the electricity is off.
Twyla says
Judy, when you purchase a new stove inquire about if the burners can be lit manually. Some can be and some cannnot.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, I always make sure of that since it’s one of the main reasons I prefer gas.
Sandi B says
It’s too bad the dual fuel gas cooktop/electric convection we took out in a forced remodel is bisque, not white, or you could have it. I love that stove! We replaced it with an all gas. I don’t like the gas convection. If you need it short term, met me know.

Are you watching the weather for the tropical storms? An earlier forecast had one of the storms passing through Texas, but now it looks like both of them are going to hit southern LA . One on Monday evening and the next on Wednesday. Tomorrow, who knows what the forecast is?
Judy Laquidara says
We are watching the storms, mainly because Chad was on his way home from helping with storm damage in NY, they got diverted to Iowa and, last I heard, his crew was on standby to head south to help with damage there.
Carolyn Sullivan says
WOW lots of talk on here about stoves! LOL who would have thought! I love gas, hate cooking on electric, but I do like my extra electric oven. Bought Blue star stove bc it is MADE IN AMERICA. here’s a link: https://www.bluestarcooking.com

That one is very high on my list but I haven’t had the nerve to show Vince the price yet.
