Almost . . the last of the furniture was purchased yesterday. We had not planned to put furniture in the main floor family room yet. On the main level are three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, breakfast room, laundry room and two bathrooms.
Two of the bedrooms have furniture. The third bedroom is for Vince to use for whatever he pleases so long as it’s not a junk room with stuff strewn everywhere. The rest of the rooms will be used as intended. Right now the dining table is in the breakfast room but once had is back in town, we’ll move that into the dining room and then bring the breakfast room table from TX to MO.
The living room . . I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in there. We will mostly use the basement family room for “living” space. It has quickly gotten uncomfortable sitting at the dining table knitting, writing blog posts, etc. When I’m cooking or doing laundry, I need to stay fairly close to the kitchen/laundry room and not be making a million trips up and down the stairs.
Vince and I talked about getting a couple of recliners to up in the main level family room. That way, we could sit upstairs and be more comfortable so we went to the furniture store. I walked in and saw a grayish/white with darker gray specks in it and I liked it. We went over and found a Lazy Boy recliner that was gray and was a perfect match. The salesman checked and they actually had another chair so we decided to get the sofa and the two chairs. Then we decided we didn’t really like the shape of the sofa. One end was a chaise type “lounger” so if two people were over, they’d have to sit next to each other on the sofa (one on the end and one in the middle) or one would be sitting in that chaise. We gave up on that and started looking again. Vince said he preferred brown over gray and since the floors and tile are all oak, he thought the brown would look better. I didn’t care – just give me a comfortable chair for knitting!
I should have taken a picture but didn’t. Vince found a Lazy Boy love seat that he thought was the most comfortable thing ever. I think it’s brown – a stripe of sorts maybe. I can’t even remember. They had one brown recliner just like the gray ones we both liked so we ended up getting the love seat, the one recliner; ordered a second recliner and should have it “before Christmas”.
I’m not sure at all how I’m going to arrange the furniture. It’s a fairly large room and I think a love seat and two recliners will look a bit sparse. I do have one end table and a sofa table. I’m sure we’ll figure something out.
All we have left to buy we need some kind of table . . almost like an entertainment center but not, to put under the TV. I want it to have shelves and doors – not be rustic, but a little rustic; not be painted, maybe whitewashed or some kind of distressed look. I’ll know it when I see it. I tell myself that often. We also need a computer table. I don’t want a desk but I do want it to have a “drawer” that pulls out for the keyboard. I need room on it for my monitor and a printer. Once I get those two pieces, get the living room furniture delivered and get what little we’re bringing from Texas, we will be fully furnished and done!

Love hearing about your move back to Missouri. Shopping for furniture is not something I like to do. My daughter bought a Lazy Boy sofa 9 weeks ago and still doesn’t have it. They told her 8 – 10 weeks so she isn’t frantic yet. But she does remind me how many weeks have passed. As for a TV table – at least 20 years ago I bought a bedroom set at an auction for $40 that included a triple dresser. A few years ago I started using the dresser as a TV stand. I love having all the drawers to put gadgets and movies in. Then low a behold a few months ago I saw a picture of the same triple dresser in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. They had glassware or some such thing on the dresser. Bet they paid more for theirs then I did for mine. lol Good luck with the move and with the animals. Can’t wait for you to get your quilting mojo back again.

They told us 12 – 14 weeks.

Just my humble opinion, but if you have a large living room, a good idea is to not put the furniture against the walls. THat can end up looking like a hotel lobby. It looks nice to have the back of a sofa or loveseat toward the rest of the house, with maybe a console table behind it. Just one idea. The website called Houzz will give you more ideas on how to arrange furniture than you can believe.

I do have a sofa table that will go behind the love seat. There’s only one wall that would actually be able to accommodate furniture but we’re going to put our recliners there (not right against the wall). One wall has a fireplace. One wall has a large opening into the breakfast area (96″ as I recall) and the fourth “wall” isn’t a wall at all but wood floor that’s kinda like a path around the stairs.

Sounds like great progress!
