I had totally forgotten how bad the flies get around here. They weren’t here two weeks ago when I was here but there has been a massive invasion of flies this week. We had no fly swatters here. When I was at Walmart a couple of days ago, I looked for one. Couldn’t find one. Asked a guy working there where they might be. He went to where they should have been but they were out. He said “I know where some are in the back” but came back and said “We’ve sold them all! I believe it. The flies are terrible.
Vince went by Big Lots, two dollar type stores, Tractor Supply and another feed store and no one had fly swatters.
On the way home from the furniture store yesterday, he stopped at Atwoods and was so happy to find fly swatters.
We now have four of them. I told him we’d keep three on the main level and one in the basement. In reality, we’ll probably lose all three of them and never know where one is when we need it but at least we know we have some in the house now.

Now that summer is nearing the end, it may be time to locate the snow shovels. I still remember how I laughed every time i remember Vince and Chad’s “snow shovel adventure” in Nevada.

We got rid of all of them. I told Vince just today that he needs to be on the lookout for some to buy.

I always heard an old “wives tale” around here that an invasion of flies means it is going to get cold soon! This week has been very unusual in that the temps are around 98 or 99 and one night the lows got into the mid 60’s. 66 I think. I even got cold and had to pull the covers over me!! Usually I don’t even sleep under even a sheet because I get so hot! We have had some showers a couple of days this week. That is very unusual for us. Thinking maybe we are going to have a cold winter??

I know this sounds crazy but I just heard this tonight. A friend said they had flies in their garage and they hung up a ziplock bag full of water and now they don’t have anymore flies. Not sure how it works but they said it definitely did. Maybe worth a try.

A few years ago, I found some fly swatters at Ace Hardware that the swatting part looked like a hand and the handle was expandable. I bought a bunch, can’t find them all, but they worked. It was cute enough to just stashed in containers on the table. I need to find them again.

I think we keep a flyswatter in nearly every room. It’s a pain seeing a fly, going to another room to get a swatter and then not able to find the fly when you get back. Then it starts buzzing in the window after you get sat down and comfy, or your hands full with whatever you were working on
