Both of us have to work really hard to stay organized. Every morning it’s the same thing .. Where is the dog leash? Where’s my wallet? Where are the car keys? This morning Vince had to go down to city hall and get our water/trash bill set up for auto pay and he had a few more stops. I felt like I’d been herding elephants by the time he got out of the house. Heck, he couldn’t even find his coffee. I told him the only place I put coffee was in the cabinet above the coffee maker. He thought the one bag in there was the new, not yet opened bag and he was looking for the opened bag but after both of us searching, he decided the bag over the coffee maker actually was the opened bag.
After seeing how nice it is to have the cans all organized on the Shelf Reliance rack, I’ve been busy trying to organize what I have here that can be organized.
Vince is always buying batteries so I never buy them but then when I need them, it sometimes takes days for him to find them and then the first few he hands me are usually so old, they’re dead. With Addie being here more, and so many kid toys needing batteries, I decided to take charge of the battery stash.
I ordered this battery organizer and will buy a few of the batteries we use often and keep those in there. I will not even tell Vince where it is because then I’ll never see it again! He says the same thing about me.
I used all the hooks I have here to hang up things . .
A bag on the side of the washer to dispose of dryer lint. There’s not really room there for a trash can unless I put a small one under the sink and I don’t want to do that.
Added one for hanging pot holders next to the stove.
Added one in the closet for the Swiffer duster in a utility closet.
That should do it til I get more hooks here.

Oh My!! Is this the start of an organized home for you and Vince?? You know, where all the food is together, all the pots and pans are together, all the batteries are in the same place, all Judy’s tools are in her same place, all Vince’s tools are in his same place, etc. (Not mentioning yarn here, or fabric, but it is a thought to follow for those items too.)
Of course there has to be a special place for each of you to always keep your own wallet, keys, cell phone – somewhere by the door you use to go out to the car. Hooks, basket on a counter, labeled drawer, plastic file caddy on wall or door, something to corral what you will need when you leave the house.
Hmmm, this could trigger a whole new way of living together. You might need some “sit down and talk” conversations, with cookies and milk/food items of your choice!
Forgive me if I sound heavyhanded. I remember the struggle we had when we set up a filing system together years ago. Food would have helped greatly.
Good Luck!!

I have a drawer where all the batteries live. Maybe when I finally (if ever) get some clean-up/pitch stuff done, I can find a better way to store them. Right now I have potholders stuck in a drawer. I like the idea of hanging them on hooks. I’m going to try that!

OMG I can never find the D–n swifter duster! I don’t know how it gets moved around!!! I’m putting a hook up in my closet.

Love those little 3M hooks!
Judy Laquidara says
Believe it or not, these were actually an off brand and not 3M.

New item I have had to organize is a hook by door to hang face masks so handy when I leave the house. Be glad when Face masks no longer needed.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m so ready to be done with masks too. I so dislike shopping anyway and then when I talk myself into going out, and then think about the mask, I most often talk myself out of going.
Cynthia says
I keep my masks hanging on the signal knob in my car. Otherwise I’d forget to grab one every time I go out.
Katie says
Me too, I have 2 I made, I figure with the heat of the summer cooking on my car, it will kill any germ when I come back about every week to 10 days to go somewhere.

I had to laugh when you mentioned batteries! My husband seems to think the batteries HAVE to stay in the garage. You can’t even walk in the garage and I have no idea where he hides them. I have to ask every time I need a battery and it drives me nuts!!! Doesn’t bother him a bit, though, and I have finally given up asking him to keep them in the house. If he dies before me, I’ll never have another battery without having to buy new ones…I’d never find them in the garage!!!

Vince sounds like my husband always misplacing his stuff. We have lived in our house for 35 years and I don’t move glasses, plates or silverware and he was looking for the silverware where it’s been since day one. He misplaced his wallet and thought he’d left it in a used car he picked up for a dealership he drives for, so at 11:30 pm he was going to check and see if it was there. I went to bathroom and found it laying on counter. And don’t get me started on his garage. I got band from it because I cleaned and tried to organize it..lol
Judy Laquidara says
Oh, Angie! They may be related!

I had to chuckle about the hooks. I just put one up on the back of a door to hang my extra house key on to use when I go for a bike ride. I’ll put the the ring withe the car and house keys on it when I ride.
Susan Nixon says
Very organized! I like that battery thing, but I only buy two kinds and I always toss them in the same drawer, so I probably won’t get one.

I have my own small toolbox, a clear shoebox in the kitchen pantry. I found that I just couldn’t find tools that I use regularly when they were in the garage. So guess who uses my tools also? I recently put a bit of rainbow kashi tape around the handles so I can find them if they migrate.
Last night I went looking for the corded drill, our first tool we bought together, because I wanted a certain drill bit. He’d taken the drill bits out of the drill box and put them in his new Craftsman tool shelves. So the original B&D drill no longer even had the drill chuck with it in the plastic lunchbox. Had a little discussion there in the garage. But as long as I know WHERE the original drill bits are to the drill I like to use, I’m fine with his system. Besides, I can keep my own stash of needed items where ever I want, and don’t have to ask him for his.
