I’ve been using the phone as a hot spot and had already gone over my data limits when I was here last week. Then our billing cycle started over again so I’ve gone over again this week. Good grief . . Vince is going to cut off my phone if I don’t do better! 🙂
The internet at the house is now hooked up and I’m happy but . . it isn’t unlimited data like we’re used to so I’ll have to be careful about leaving things running when I don’t need them to be running.
I’ve been to Walmart at least once a day, twice most days. I went this morning while Vince was waiting for the internet guy. There were things I didn’t get so Vince is going out this afternoon and he’ll pick up some of the things we need.
When we left Texas earlier this week, after working so hard to pack, I was thinking we’d sit here in MO, knit and not have much to do but I was wrong!
I’ve been hearing and reading that Dr. Pepper is in short supply but everywhere I’ve been (which seems to have been most every store in Joplin!) there’s plenty of it. The one thing that cannot be found is canning jars! We use jars for glasses because I use them for storing leftovers and for canning so using them for glasses makes sense – nothing else to keep in the cabinet. I forgot to bring any with us for glasses and there doesn’t seem to be a jar of any size anywhere in this part of MO. We stopped at every farm supply store on our way to Nevada yesterday and they laugh at us when we ask – kinda like asking for a freezer! I ended up buying real glasses at Walmart today so I’ll leave whatever jars are to be found for whomever needs them for canning.
Otherwise, everything is going fine.

I’ve been looking for canning lids…I’m not out, but I like to have some extras. I have not looked online–yet.
Judy Laquidara says
I’ve always tried to keep enough on hand because no matter how many jars you have, without the lids, you’re up a creek. I do have quite a few of the Tattler re-usable lids and I like those and unless I’m using new jars, I almost always use the Tattler lids and save my lids I’ve purchased extra. Good luck finding them.
Linda in NE says
Jar lids online are going for about $15 for a box of 12. Or, if you find a more reasonable price the shipping is atrocious. I’m probably going to have to fall back on my Tattlers that I don’t really like unless my order from Lehman’s comes. They’ve been on backorder forever.
Judy Laquidara says
That’s unreal!! I was so hoping you would get that order from Lehman’s.
Elle says
I hear you on canning supplies. I need lids so I can start making blackberry jam from our garden. Well, nowhere in Boise! Online? Nothing. A friend in Washington state saw my whine on Facebook. She went to ACE Hardware down the street and is shipping me 6 boxes. Sigh!
Linda in NE says
My DIL found 4 boxes of lids in Minnesota but she may decide she wants them for salsa. So I can’t count on them.
Wanda Brewer says
Judy, try junk stores, usually have jars, I wash, boil them and use.
Judy Laquidara says
I have plenty in Texas.
Nelle Coursey says
Strange how different parts of the country are out of a lot of things. We have not had the small 8 pack bottles of Dr. Peppers in a while. Found some at United, but now there are none. Still have the larger 6 pack of larger ones and all the liters you would want.
Susan Nixon says
Canning jar shortage! Wow! I’ve never seen that. I’ve also never had an internet that was limited. That seems so strange to me. I’ve had slower or faster, but not limited. Even my phone data is unlimited.
Judy Laquidara says
Lucky you! We’ve never had unlimited phone data but it’s been forever since we had limits on our internet. Apparently rural internet service in MO is pretty sad.
Linda Rech says
No jars or lids here in Washington. Everybody and their mother has a garden this year. No seeds left after May, tomato plants disappeared as soon as they came in, no freezers, no dehydrators, a shortage of plastic freezer bags (!). We went along with the crowd and have a bumper crop of corn and green beans that will be harvested soon. At least I didn’t plant zucchini!
Tee says
Oh thank you for reminding me of the Tattler re-usable lids that I ordered because you posted that they were on sale a bit back. I stopped at 4 places for regular lids, finding nothing, so I was thinking of sending my husband out to more places before giving up. I had not gone into my canning cupboard, so I would have eventually found the Tattler re-usable lids. I now have to decide what is more important, pickles or dilly beans?
Kris S says
No lids in Green Bay, WI either. I discovered a box buried in my pantry. There is a national aluminum shortage, so many soft drinks are being sold only in plastic bottles or being dropped or limited until the shortage goes away.

Canning jars and especially lids are scarce in my area of South Central Ky. Paula
