Got some clarification from Liberty Mutual on the changes to our insurance policy. The changes only affect the umbrella – not the underlying coverage. Apparently some other states, including Missouri, have always had the language that only the named insureds are covered on the umbrella, which makes sense but Texas is just now adding that so that makes sense.
Our agent is in Missouri because we never switched from when we lived there but he got to the bottom of it and we’re happy.
By the way, I was able to get approved through USAA because my dad as in the Army but . . insurance is so weird. For more coverage on the Texas house, the premium as less; for the same coverage on the Missouri house, the coverage was way more. The umbrella was about half with USAA but vehicle coverage was about 80% higher with USAA. How can rates vary so much? It definitely pays to check around but since those driving our vehicles with our permission will still be covered under our main policy, e’ll just stick with Liberty Mutual.
