Got some clarification from Liberty Mutual on the changes to our insurance policy. The changes only affect the umbrella – not the underlying coverage. Apparently some other states, including Missouri, have always had the language that only the named insureds are covered on the umbrella, which makes sense but Texas is just now adding that so that makes sense.
Our agent is in Missouri because we never switched from when we lived there but he got to the bottom of it and we’re happy.
By the way, I was able to get approved through USAA because my dad as in the Army but . . insurance is so weird. For more coverage on the Texas house, the premium as less; for the same coverage on the Missouri house, the coverage was way more. The umbrella was about half with USAA but vehicle coverage was about 80% higher with USAA. How can rates vary so much? It definitely pays to check around but since those driving our vehicles with our permission will still be covered under our main policy, e’ll just stick with Liberty Mutual.

Glad you got to the bottom of the insurance issue n have some clarification.
Wanted to let you know i blended the fermented wasabi mustard this afternoon. Sooooooo good. It should come with a warning not to breath when looking into the finished product.

I hope you have no problems because Liberty Mutual is noted for not paying claims. There was a fire on our farm and it was started by the grandson of the landowner next to us. I can’t remember how many acres it burned but it also burned 3 old cars we had out there. One being a 1967 Chevy Nova. Even though it had not been started in years, it was driven to the place where it was. Their Appraiser came out and said the Nova was worth $5000 before the fire. Those are in heavy demand, even the 4 door ones. There was a 1939 body that my brother had there for parts and a 1947 Chevrolet. They gave us $200 for the 1947 and $100 for the 1939. They gave us $2000 for the Nova. My brother questioned them and they basically said take it or leave it. We would not have been so upset except it was their appraiser that quoted the price. Their excuse was that there would be usage on the car and wear and tear so it could not be the value he said! Anyway, we will not be buying any of that insurance. They also had to shove a LOT of trees to stop the fire and they would pay nothing for those even though they were worth about $200 each. They said they couldn’t help what the Forrest Service did! Well if their client had not started the fire, the Forrest Service would not have been on our property! We even talked to a lawyer about it and he said we could hire a lawyer and take them to small claims court for deception but it might take years and more than we would get out of the settlement! And this was not even counting all the grassland that we lost and my brother keeps some of his cows there. I guess insurance companies are good until you need them!

We’ve had Liberty Mutual forever and they’ve been great. Vince totaled a car in Kentucky. I had a wreck in MO. It wasn’t my fault and the lady who hit me – her insurance kept saying she has insurance, no she doesn’t have insurance. After about the third day, Liberty Mutual said “We’ll take care of your car and we’ll deal with her insurance” and they did. We hit a deer here and they promptly paid for everything. A trip or two ago, I had my windshield cracked on the way to MO and they arranged for me to stop in Joplin and have it repaired. I don’t think we’ve ever had any problems with them at all.

Yes, my house is Liberty Mutual. None of them are cheap these days, though. The kind of service you’re reporting for your car accidents is exactly what I get from GEICO. And the first thing they’ve always asked me is if I am okay, and then if those with me are okay. Regan had an accident when a Progressive customer rammed him when he was sitting still in traffic – cell phone talker – ugh! Progressive was HORRIBLE to deal with, so I was glad I had GEICO to do the dealing!

I’m going to be shopping for new auto and home insurance. I’ve been with AAA for 43 years. Today may have been the last straw. I got a broken windshield from a rock Friday night. I called the local office yesterday, and she said to take the car to the dealership because of the “Eye Sight” safety stuff that’s installed (it’s a Subaru) and has to be recalibrated after the window is installed. We took it to the dealership today. It’s about $1000. When I then called to file the official claim, they had their glass specialist call (who’s affiliated with Safelite – who I would have used except for the recommendation from the local office). I insisted on a Subaru windshield (based upon the recommendation from an independent glass place we’ve used before – and he also told us to go to the dealer!). We’re waiting to find out how much extra we’ll have to pay to use OEM vs aftermarket. Trust me: AAA has taken in waaaaaay more money from us over these 43 years than they’ve paid out on both auto and homeowners. I know this probably won’t be different with any other company. It just made me mad.
