The lady came and got the chickens today. I had told Vince I was going to stay inside with Rita so she didn’t get upset. She would know there was something weird going on outside but when my friend got here, I walked out to the chicken yard with her and we all began trying to grab a chicken. There were two sitting on nests so I grabbed those. From there . . it was hilarious. Vince had a net. My friend and her husband each had some kind of chicken grabbers they had brought from home. I had about an 8′ piece of PVC pipe and I’d try to block them from running as someone else was trying to catch them. At least three times Vince threw the net and it covered a chicken. It was like he had practiced it and was good at it. The first time he did it, my friend’s husband said “WOW!” I told Vince “I think it surprised him!” Vince said “He has no idea how good I am!” Oh, please! Those chickens are in 1-1/2 acres fenced and they knew all kinds of hiding spots, most of which were covered with thick thorny growth so they gave us a workout.
We caught the approximate 20 chickens in that yard. The 5 chickens in the other coop heard all the commotion and they went inside their coop to hide so Vince closed the door – it’s a small coop and they were easy to catch.
My friend is known as the “Crazy Chicken Lady” (she’s also my dental hygienist) and I know she loves her chickens and cares for them like I do/did so once they adjust to their new surroundings, they’ll be happy and well cared for. She has a little girl a little older than Addie and she was petting them and had already picked out her favorite.
After they left, we were hot and tired! Vince said “That was a lot of fun!” I was surprised because I figured he was going to be aggravated that I had accumulated so many chickens but he said the couple and their kids were fun to work with.
Then we had someone come get the big grill. We’ve had it probably five years and had never used it. No way we’re paying to move that thing so we sold it. They had a older man with him and he wanted to know what else we had to sell. He wanted a lawn mower so Vince showed him one that he would sell. It was a Honda push mower. They wanted to know it works so Vince started it. When it started right up on the first pull, they were cheering! They said they had been looking for a lawn mower for him and everything was junk and was hard to start so he was very happy with his purchase. They may come back and get one of the washer/dryer sets we have.
I finished packing the bedroom. There wasn’t much left. Tomorrow I start on the other extra bedroom. That one is going to be harder because there’s so much stuff in there and we’re not taking that bed down yet. I think if I can have that one all packed by next weekend, I’ll feel like I accomplished a lot.
Rita has had a good day. She’s sleeping a lot, probably because of the meds she’s taking. But, she’s active when she needs to be active. She goes outside when she needs to, asks to eat right on schedule and about 9 p.m., starts bugging the heck out of us to go to bed. Crazy dog! But I’m so happy she’s doing good and we have that surgery behind us!

So is it all finalized now? It was days ago you mentioned an inspection, I think as the last thing.
It must seem awfully quiet there, now, with no Addie and no chickens. Perhaps easier to leave.
