Do not judge, ok?
The packers will move the totes so I don’t have to unpack all that yarn. We had dry beans stored in the red totes. They were on sale after Christmas for $4 and there’s a reason for that! They break and bend and aren’t good for much but they definitely are not good for holding about 80 pounds of beans so I repacked all the beans into “extra small” boxes.
This is a bedroom we removed the bed from and I think we’re going to sell the furniture. I got most of this packing done yesterday so I think I’ll be able to finish up this room today. Some of those boxes is stuff out of the kitchen so it really was a successful packing day yesterday.
My plan is to spend Saturday, Sunday, Monday and maybe Tuesday packing up the other bedroom. Then I’ll get started on the sewing room. I figure that will take me at least a week. I wish we could get PODS here. It would be so nice to get the boxes packed and out of the way but . . no PODS here so we do what we have to do!

Wow you are making good progress, selling things, packing things. Keep going… it will be worth it.

Judy here is a packing tip. Works like a charm and my mover now tells everyone about it. When you pack say a bedroom #1 put a different color duct tape on it across the top . Then make a list for movers with the list of room and what color tape. I put sample of tape on sheet with what room goes in. Then mover doesn’t just stack any where or have to have you to ask where does this go. The moving goes faster and so does the unpacking. Example red duct tape for kitchen then everything with red tape goes to kitchen. Just thought I would share with you and your readers.

Here’s how I look at it. EVERY box is going to get unpacked. We’re having them leave all the boxes in the garage. We will be the ones unpacking the boxes. The things I want unpacked right away (clothes, kitchen and bathroom supplies), I’m labeling with a red marker so those boxes can be dropped off in the kitchen.
I’ve always had the movers write BR2 for Bedroom #2 or MB for master bedroom or bath. Then I’d tape a note on the doors to those rooms – BEDROOM #2 or MASTER and they always got things in the right spot.
This is the first time we’ve had to pack ourselves and the move is going to take several months and several trips with the movers. A large truck can’t get down our driveway so it’s either pack it on a U-Haul, shuttle it to the large truck or make two trips in a smaller truck so that’s how we’re doing it.

Thanks, Wanda for the tip. I like it!

Your photo is giving me nightmares! At times we’ve toyed with the idea of selling our Montana place–the thought of packing up all of Michael’s stuff gives me a stomach ache! Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of household stuff too but he is the pack rat in this household.

This reminds me of our last move. I think moving is always stressful. My younger daughter’s family moved in mid-June. She thought she was well organized, in spite of working full time. But there were still plenty of “last minute” boxes that seem to hold weird combinations of stuff.

That was us, too, in mid-May. We had a few months to sell, pack, donate, and toss stuff out. Yet at the last minute we were frantically throwing things in boxes. Still have about a dozen boxes left to unpack in the garage.

At some point almost every day, I feel like it’s hopeless . . we’ll never get it done, then I buckle down and make some noticeable progress. The end result is worth it but we do have a lot of work ahead of us.

You are making great progress! Hopefully you give yourself a break now and then so you don’t get totally burnt out!

It looks like you are making great progress!

Looks like it is going fast now!

Check how much it costs you per pound to move stuff. My last real move I found that a lot of things like canned goods would cost me as much to move as to rebuy them. I donated the last bits we weren’t able to use up.
Judy Laquidara says
We already know the cost per pound and are calculating everything.

U-Haul has something similar to PODS called U-Box. Maybe they’re in your area? We’ve never used U-Box but have rented U-Haul trailers and moving trucks many times. Thought you might want to know about U-Box just in case you hadn’t heard of them. So happy you and Vince found a new home that works for both of you.
Susan Nixon says
Moving along pretty fast.
