Decorating is not fun for me. I hate to admit it but we haven’t hung a single thing on our walls here except for a couple of things in the bedroom. I’m going to do better at the new house. Nicole does a good job of decorating ad she loves it so she’ll help me but I have to just let her do it and keep my opinions to myself because as Vince once said “Why do you always use clown colors?” He was talking about my quilts but I do love bright colors.
When we were looking at houses online, the houses with the neutral carpet, neutral walls, neutral furnishings were always the ones that caught my eye – probably because I didn’t see any with clown colors.
Really, it’s whatever makes us happy. I’m not trying to get a room on the cover of a decorating magazine . . that’s never going to happen even if I were to try.
I told Vince yesterday that I was going to try to stick with neutrals. He doesn’t care what I do. He even said we would keep the red walls.
This is the dining room and I may end up painting those the green like was in my Nevada, MO house.
This was actually the breakfast room but the dining room was the same color.
I’m not sure that green qualifies as neutral but neither does red!
Last night I was looking at rugs for the sunroom and found this one.
Definitely not neutral but I could see it with rattan furniture and the grayish green cushions.
Then I found this one and I knew Vince would like it better. Actually, I may like it better too. I could use rattan furniture or any tan/brown furniture and use the green, aqua and navy cushions.
I plan to do the sun room first because that’s where we’re going to spend a lot of time. Also, it’s small and doesn’t require so much thinking on my part!
That’s a start . . a rug . . but I’m going to wait til I can measure the sun room and decide what size rug I want. I think for furniture, I’m going to get something along the lines of patio furniture. I’ve been looking online and I’m not sure if it’s just the time of year or the country of origin but almost everywhere I look online, the pieces I like are out of stock. I may have to bring a 5 gallon orange Home Depot bucket in there, turn it upside down and make a soft cushion for it if I can’t find any furniture! That’s much more in line with my decorating skills! 🙂

I like the red walls but I’d ditch the dead animal head!!! LOL! Both carpets are awesome. The big box stores may have summer furniture and cushions going on sale soon to make space for Halloween and Christmas decors.

The deer head belongs to the sellers and I’m sure he’s already found a spot in their new home. He has a name but I forgot what it is.

Have you looked at Ruggables? We just got a runner from them for our front porch and I love it! The cats can’t shred it and the rug can be picked up and thrown in the washing machine, which is wonderful if one of them has an accident or coughs up a hairball on it! They have some really pretty designs too!
Judy Laquidara says
I had looked at them once but haven’t looked lately. I will look there before I order anything. Thanks.
Sandie says
Judy- green and Aqua would work with both of those rugs, so if you would want to refresh the room once in a while you could just get both rugs and switch them out to change the whole look of the room.

Out door furniture is a shortage from the pandemic. We are on the hunt for landscape timbers, another shortage!!
Judy Laquidara says
One of the guys here picking up some stuff Vince was selling told him he can’t get T-posts so Vince told him he can come back and take the ones out of the chicken fence once the chickens are gone.
Pat Peele in SC says
Auctions are great places to find outdoor furniture here in SC, especially estate sale auctions. Little by little, it will get down, did you try ordering a freezer ther. There seems to be a long wait time.
Moving always gives you a chance for deep cleaning!
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, no freezers there either.

Green IS a neutral used by Mother Nature. So don’t ignore it when choosing colors.
I wish I could be there to help you decorate/accessorize as I love to do that and it is one of the things I do best.
Judy Laquidara says
Well, come on over! You aren’t that far away!

I love the red walls, but that might be because my bedroom walls are red!?
Sandy says
When I bought my house the walls were all white. I had a wonderful time selecting bright, cheerful paint colors for each room. I did my own painting, too! The hallway has several angled walls, so I painted each a different color. I love it!
Judy Laquidara says
I will probably paint whatever has to be painted but I will probably put it off so long that I get used to the red and never do anything with it. 🙂

I think because of the stay at home order earlier this year, everyone who needed patio furniture bought it. My daughter ordered a set in April and received it mid June.
Linda in NE says
You may have to go out and shop for furniture. It should be going on end-of-season sale long about now. I like the aqua, blue, green rug too. Very sunroom-y looking.
About clown colors….I once bought some old hand sewn quilt tops on eBay. The pictures had been a bit deceiving. When I showed them to my son, who pretty much liked any quilt, he saw the first one, was quiet for a few seconds and then says, “It looks like a clown exploded on it.” LOL Only he would have thought of that comment. I miss him and his smart, sarcastic mouth.
Judy Laquidara says
Not going out and shopping. I’ll wait on furniture if I can’t order it online and have it delivered. As much as I want sunroom furniture, it isn’t a necessity.
Nelle Coursey says
How funny! I think the bucket idea is a good one! LOL Then when you get some furniture in there you can use them for planting!

I loved my red dining room. It seemed all my company was drawn to that room. I have a hard time with neutrals. Trying to paint some walls neutral now for hopefully selling our house in a year or so.
Judy Laquidara says
Good luck. I always felt that paint was an easy fix and if someone didn’t like my colors, they could paint it when I was gone. That’s the first thing the relocation companies did – paint everything off white. It always made me sad to see the pictures of our homes for sale with plain, boring wall colors.

Patricia (Pat) Campbell always said that purple was a neutral. And it was either Freddy Moran or Roberta Horton who considered red a neutral. Their creations were always beautiful!
You will have such fun living near the kids again!
If you’ve been to a food store lately, the canned soft drinks are down by at 50%. There is an aluminum shortage because more people have been drinking their beverages at home (from cans) vs from the kegs at bars and restaurants.
There is also a shortage of concrete because of a dwindling supply of the right kind of sand and it’s substitution of a particular type of ash.
Lately, it seems, the list of shortages just keeps growing…is there an end in sight?
