I’ve mentioned this on here before but I think it’s the funniest thing – when we left Missouri, my dental hygienist took our chickens. Now that we’re leaving Texas, the dental hygienist is taking our chickens! I guess when I get to MO, I’ll have to make sure the dental hygienist has chickens. No, not true. I don’t think we’ll be getting chickens again. Vince was never in favor of that and he’ll be happy not having them. I’m just happy he was ok with me having them for the past 12 or so years.
I talked to the hygienist and she’s supposed to come Saturday and get them. Yes, there were more tears. Vince is so confused and probably a bit frustrated. As I’m sitting here bawling, I’m saying . . yes, I’m happy we’re moving . . but it makes no sense to him. He said “You cried yesterday about the tractor. You’re crying now about the chickens. Are you going to cry every day til we leave?” Maybe! Tomorrow I’ll cry when we take Rita to the vet. Thursday I’ll cry when we pick her up and I see her with her eyes removed. Friday maybe I’ll just cry so I can say I’ve cried every day this week! 🙂
You all understand, right? The chickens are almost like pets. Even if we were getting chickens in MO (we’re not), I’d not take these chickens but they’re going to a great home to a lady who takes good care of her chickens. They’ll be a bit confused at first but they’ll love it once they get used to it.
Without chickens, it’s going to be quiet around our house!

Yes I totally understand about the chickens! Love our pets for sure! Thinking of Rita and prayers for you.

Makes total sense to me. Every change is a step of closure in this homesteading chapter. Like I said yesterday:
Cheers through the tears! MO, here we come 🙂

It’s such an adjustment when one is getting ready to move to a new area – all of a sudden the mundane things are GONE and even though you’re wanting to move on, a part of you is already missing what you won’t have anymore (even though the move is something you’ve wanted/looked forward to). It’s wonderful that they will be going to a good new home.
Wishing y’all all the best tomorrow with Rita. Cyberhugs from the Panhandle.

I went through the same thing last year and I didn’t have to give up animals! That would have destroyed me! He’ll get used to you crying, or you’ll eventually stop crying. I was done long before the packing was finished and we moved because I got so excited about the house! We still pull up in front of it and say that we can’t believe it all worked out and we live here!

You’re right. I think just getting to spend a few nights in the new place, even if we have to come back to Texas and do more packing – that will make it all ok for me. I’m sure we’re going to be saying the exact same thing – especially since Vince once told me he wasn’t moving back to Missouri – he didn’t care if they were giving houses away there!
Thanks for the encouragement.

Poor Wilburn he have more hens to chase.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes but she has more roosters too so there will definitely be some power struggles.
Susan Nixon says
Parting is such sweet sorrow … even if it’s chickens.
Nelle Coursey says
At least you will have more time for packing, doing what you need to do, etc. You don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to make sure they have water and food. I know you will miss them, but when you do just think of all those snakes you have found in the nests!! Then you won’t be missing them as much.

What happened to Cat?? I’m worried about the kitty.
Judy Laquidara says
We’re still hoping to find a home for her but if not, she’ll probably go to one of our two closest neighbors and they’ll take care of her.
