You may remember back in January when we ordered the bassinet for Rita. It has worked so well. The bassinet is on my side of the bed and if she squirms or makes noise, I reach over and pet her and she goes back to sleep – just like a baby! I think she always wants to know we’re close. Most nights I don’t even remember doing it but Vince says I do it.
When we were in MO, I had several ideas about how she could sleep. We didn’t have room in the car to bring the bassinet and it was just for one night – one sleepless night with a dog in the bed with us. None of my ideas, none of which included her in our bed, worked so that’s where she ended up.
I do NOT like sleeping with a dog in the bed and if it had been for more than one night, I would have blown up the blowup bed and slept on that. In the apartment, I had the a/c set on 74 because to me, it seems cooler in there than 74 seems at home. Vince was hot and instead of getting up and changing the thermostat, he slept on top of the covers. I didn’t know why he was on top of the covers but I didn’t have enough covers so between that and Rita in her little bed between us, I don’t think any of us slept much. I know people do it but a dog in the bed just isn’t happening for us.
Since we’re going to be back and forth – spend half our time in MO and half our time in TX for a while, and since we’ll be bringing a car load every trip, we decided to get a second bassinet for Rita – one to keep there and one to keep here. By the time tornado season gets into full swing, we’ll probably be living there full time and we’ll keep one bassinet in the basement bedroom and one in our main bedroom but when there’s scary weather, we’ll just sleep in the basement and having a dog bed down there will make it much easier.
When we were talking about getting the second bassinet, Vince said “I’m sure we’ll be getting a second dog sooner or later.” I can only take that to mean he’s considering getting a dachshund. I need a dachshund in my life. Speck was my third one and I still miss him so much. I love Rita but she’s not a snuggly dog. She cannot stand to be held and there’s no way she would sit in my lap. My dachshunds always would do that and I miss it.
We’ll see . . I guess there could come a time when we have a bassinet on both sides of our bed! 🙂

Our pets are special to us and it is amazing what we will do for them. But she is a special case. Being in a new place and not knowing where things are. She is more comfortable with you near.

I really miss Having a doggie. We were at our tenant’s house yesterday afternoon and I got to play and cuddle with their small dog who, coincidentally, has the same name and is the same age as our little one we had to put down in May. It did my heart good. I’m hoping that someday, someday, he’ll be ready for another dog.
