Some days I cook and then I feel like I’m adding more to the freezer than I took out. I don’t feel like it’s one step forward, two steps backwards but it’s no way to clean out a freezer.
My plan is to clean out the smallest freezer first so I pretty much open it, grab something and that’s what we’re having.
Yesterday I grabbed a chuck roast. We just had chuck roast with rice and gravy Monday night so I didn’t want that again. I remembered seeing a Beef Stew recipe at Pressure Cooking Today so that’s what I made.
We had tomatoes and cucumbers with goat cheese with it. By the time I added all the veggies and the liquid, I think I put more back in the freezer than I took out.
My head is so full of plans! One of those plans is to freeze a dozen or so meals and take them with us to Missouri when we go so with all we have to be doing there, I won’t have to worry about cooking.
I’m trying to keep a list of what need to bring from home, and what I need to order for curbside pickup. I can place the order here and schedule a pickup the day after we get there.
Eventually everything from here will end up there but we will still be here more than we’re there for a while so I can’t take the things I need here. I’m also not really worried about it – especially the food aspect, because we can buy whatever we need there.
The first time we go, we’ll probably drive to the house, spend the night, then get up the next morning and go to Nevada, get everything out of the apartment except the bed and loveseat (which is really all the furniture we have there). That will give me a blender, a toaster, a mixer, pots and pans, dishes, toilet paper, ziplock bags, spices – most everything I need but not really any food.
I just thought of something! I’m going to need to bring pillows, quilts, sheets, towels, soap, . . all that stuff. Crazy because I have it all in Nevada but not at the house. Oh, well . . it all has to get moved eventually, right?
Back to the topic . . what I used yesterday:
From the Pantry:
- Canned tomates
From the Freezer:
- Chuck roast
- Frozen corn
- Frozen peas
Everything else was fresh – potatoes, celery, carrots, bay leaves. I was going to add okra and I forgot!
My guess is . . this entire moving process would be pretty funny to watch but not so funny from my vantage point!

This is so exciting and so many plans and thoughts. Lists galore. It will be great.

The fact that we eat less as we age makes it even harder to empty a freezer! Love the lists!

I think you’re probably right. Even though you didn’t wind up staying in Nevada because of the virus, it’s still merging 3 households of stuff. At least you won’t be rushed. You may get enough in Missouri that you think, “I don’t need all that other stuff.” LOL
