We always talk about the memories Addie will have of spending her time in Texas with us but I have some fun memories too.
Last night we were talking and she wanted to know if she could come to my house every weekend once we get moved. I told her that she needs to wait til we get there and see if that’s what she really wants to do but, yes, she can come any time she wants as long as her parents agree. She isn’t going to have the sewing room where she can go hang out by herself and do what she wants to do. She will have her bedroom and there will probably be a TV in there. Here, she has the run of the place. She goes outside, walks around by herself, finds a quiet spot to sit and watch the birds or watch the chickens. It will be different there. She wanted to know if she could still come when she gets in high school. I told her . . any time you want to come, though I know spending time with Granny when she’s in high school is probably going to happen less and less.
She wanted to know how she would get to my house. I told her I could pick her up at school. She said “I don’t mind walking. I’m a fast walker!” I said “I’ll come pick you up but once we get to my house, you and I can go walking. I’ll always be happy to have a walking buddy to walk with me so I can get exercise.” She was happy with that idea.
The other day she told me . . “You don’t really need a kitchen at the new house!” I said “Oh, every house needs a kitchen. We have to eat!” She said “We can eat every day at the yummy Chinese restaurant!” Hmmm . . we may have a different opinion of yummy but there really is a good Chinese restaurant in Joplin, but I think I’ll keep my kitchen too.
It’s been so fun spending five weeks with her and getting to know a bit more of the thoughts that run through her head.
As much as I have enjoyed having her here, it’s time for her to go home before her parents storm the place and take her back! 🙂 I’m looking forward to starting to pack – remind me about that when I’ve been packing non-stop for weeks! The only way to get moved in there and get settled is to get started and get it done.

Yes, you’ll both have wonderful memories of this summer. Since you’re going to be living half and half for a while, you can take some things each time you go, too.

So glad you got to have this experience with her and she got to know you and Vince better. She will cherish this time with you forever! And I know you will always remember it. But you do need a rest! And Packing might not seem like a rest, but it could be!!

I saw a blog yesterday titled, “If you do stuff, stuff gets done.” I think I’ll use that as my new mantra.
It will be great for you to be so near Addie, Nicole and Chad!
