There’s a good chance IF they have school this fall, Addie will have to wear a mask. The masks I’ve made her all tie in the back and I am quite sure those ties would be an invitation for second graders, especially boys, to untie it and I’m not sure she can re-tie them behind her head. Can you imagine a teacher having to deal with untied masks all day?
I made some that have elastic that goes behind the ears but she liked the ones better with the elastic that goes behind her head. I think I got her about a dozen made. That will be enough that Nicole isn’t having to wash them so often.
They’re so much quicker to make without having to make the ties. I’m going to make a few for myself and use shoe laces for the ties and have them so I only have one bow to tie.
I’m about convinced that we’ll be wearing masks for a long time! Not trying to be political, so please no politics, but in the beginning we were told not to wear masks, they might make things worse. Even though I understand that mainly they wanted us not using masks that medical personnel needed, it seems like saying masks could make things worse . . doesn’t make sense.
Then, there were so many professionals saying cloth masks do no good. Now . . we can’t go anywhere without them. I’m wearing one because I’d rather be safe than sorry but every time I put it on, the entire situation frustrates me.

Just sent my daughter a tip I read for kids putting a lanyard on the side attached to the mask so they don’t lose them!

A friend was talking about making masks for her kid who is going off to college. She mentioned that her fabric stash had lots of holiday options so, she’ll make masks for the various holidays.

My daughter in law is now selling mask jewelry to hang from your masks! She’s an art teacher and is making beaded things that you can hang from the mask straps. They’re really cute and creative, but all I can think is it’s one more thing to drag my mask down when I’m talking. She’s also selling a 3D printed pattern to make the masks like you’re showing in your post. Do you like them better than the pleated masks? My problem is I have a lot of hair and it gets tangled up in the ties, so I’m mostly wearing one with elastic over the ears that I made and one that is a bandanna style with velcro in the back, which has a pocket for a filter. That one is the most comfortable, as long as I don’t get my hair stuck in the velcro! :o)

I made several for 2 of my grandkids over the weekend while they were here so I could fit them better. They seemed to like the pleated ones better than the fitted ones – but with elastic. The little guy couldn’t tie those strings anyway. My other 3 grandkids are getting reversible masks – with pleats and elastic. Jonah (age 7) wanted “plain” masks so he wouldn’t look goofy. I’m thinking, like you, that we’ll be wearing them for a while. I’m OK with that if it means that the kids can get back to school. And hopefully they will get used to having them on.

I’ve seen DIY straps or extenders on various sites and also manufactured extenders on Amazon. Thought I may make a few matching DIY extenders for youngest granddaughter’s masks.

For some people, they are deadly. I have friends with heart conditions and breathing conditions, and one with PTSD issues, and they are all in trouble if they put on masks. I have breathing difficulties with them myself, and wear them as little as possible, but I’ve ordered one that’s a little different kind and hope it comes soon … and makes a difference. It also causes tremendous problems for deaf people who lip read. It’s just something we are all going through.

I made ours using Tee Shirts without side seams for making a long single tie and a loop kind of like a halter top. Maybe someone you know (haha) has a few wore out shirts you could use.

I just found some of the plastic shields at CVS. They only allow you to buy one per customer. They are around $5 and would work great. You may want to wear the mask as well. I think they are on the bottom shelf at CVS near the band aids and the gauze bandages. They are flat and in a clear plastic bag so you may not know what you are looking at. I was at the CVS on Austin Avenue.

We bought some face shields at Sam’s Club. However, you still have to wear a mask with them in order to be Covid-19 compliant.

I agree. Masks are going to be necessary through the fall. Thank you for planning ahead!

I made one like yours I call it halter style, only one tie. I tied it once when I had it on and then when I took it off I just pulled it over my head. Always tied , no tangle in my hair and easy on and easy off.

I put a bead on the ties on my mask and it works great.. It took me a while to find the right size beads. (you can try pony beads. I ended up with wood beads).. It lets me hang the mask around my neck when not needed and pull it up and slide the beads up to make it tight..
