Last night we were talking with Addie. We only have a few days left before it’s time to return her to her parents. I was talking about what I’m going to cook for dinner and asked her if there was anything she wanted me to fix. Shepherd’s Pie. She went on and on and on about how much she loves her daddy’s Shepherd Pie.
Even when she was in bed a few hours later and I was talking to her, she brought up how much she loves Shepherd’s Pie. I was asking her if she knows what all dad puts in his. Trying to make sure my recipe might be close to what Chad puts in his, I grabbed a tablet to look at pictures and she picked out a few that looked like what her dad makes.
Chad’s off today so I called him, had him explain to me how he makes his Shepherd’s Pie. I think the difference in what he does that’s a bit different from other recipes is that he starts with a roux, adds his veggies and cooks them, then adds beer to the mix to make a thick gravy. Not sure I’ll use the beer. Then he browns the meat separately and adds it to the veggies and it’s pretty standard Shepherd’s Pie from there
I’m not going to tell Addie I talked to Chad and see if she thinks my recipe is close to his. No doubt, she’ll say her daddy’s is better. She’s definite a daddy’s girl.

I’ve made the one in The Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook by Barbara Schieving, it’s pretty good, no beer?

I don’t know about that, I think granny is coming in a very close second! And right now she might just say yours is better!
