Choosing beads isn’t something I stress much about but sometimes it’s nice to hear what others thing. I keep a fairly decent selection of beans here but often don’t have the ones I need.
I’m using an Anna Victoria pattern and I love her designs so much. They’re easy enough to do and all are gorgeous.
This is going to be a shawl and the yarn is mostly silk, which is so different to work with than is merino wool. There’s not much give and the yarn is splitty but that’s just how it is.
Anyway, can you see the three vertical beads?
Bead #1: This is the milky, opal looking bead at the bottom. It has a gold lining. I think it’s too white but Addie likes it best – I think it’s the sparkle factor.
Bead #2: The middle bead. It’s more of a clear bead with a gold lining. I don’t think it adds anything.
Bead #3: The top bead is pink with a gold lining. It’s my preference but, I don’t have enough of those. Last night I ordered more and am thinking a very similar bead but more peachy might be the right choice. The photo below shows the pink beads I used in the swatch, with the peach beads below it.
There will be nearly 2,000 beads used so using anything darker that would show up better might be overpowering. I want something that will give just a hint of a bead but not be an eye catcher.
So . . what do you think?
shirley swift-bruner says
I think Addie picked the right one….i like that one, too.
shirley swift-bruner says
ALSO……you forget about the color challenge hookup for June? haha
Judy Laquidara says
I did. Thank you. I’ll see if I can get it all straightened out.
Carolyn says
I agree with you!
Cilla says
I agree with Addie. But if not that choice then either of the 2 your are purchasing would sparkle just enough. But Addie’s is my first choice. But perhaps you should peak into my clothes closet to see my wild colours before you take my word on colour preferences.
Liz says
I think the peachy ones might be good. Do you have enough yarn to make a smaller shawl for Addie with the beads she likes?
Judy Laquidara says
Definitely not with silk yarn! 🙂
Liz says
OK, maybe a washable yarn with the beads she likes. The idea is to do a mini-me version of your shawl….. Oh, you may have to make one for the doll.
Teri says
I like the top one and I like the peach one.
Joyce says
Based on the photo, I like the middle bead. Of course it depends if you want to beads to pop or just provide a shimmer.
PamO says
I agree with Joyce. I like the middle one. It looks more iridescent.
Paula Philpot says
Agree with you the PINK one.
Valerie Zagami says
I agree with Addie’s choice #1 the “opalness” of the ones on the yarn but I do the the peach one would look good. Surprised at how clear the pink looks.
Rita Waldock says
I love the pink ones, in my opinion they would sparkle without overdoing It.
Nelle Coursey says
I agree with Addie! I love the opal one.
Susan Nixon says
I think the peach is better than the pink with the color of yarn, though I like the middle one the best. It doesn’t add any color, really, but it adds a little sparkle when the sun catches it, I bet.
Penny Holliday says
I think the peach bead would be nice for your silk shawl. Perhaps you could make Addie & her doll same pattern matching shawls with a more practical yarn & Addie’s bead choice!!
Rebecca in SoCal says
In the photo, I can’t see any pink color! I really like the middle one best. It looks like a bubble! Iridescent (Thanks, PamO) is the perfect word!
Laura H. says
Of the three that you put into the swatch, I like the “pink” one best. I would have to see the pink and peach ones worked into a swatch to give an opinion between those.
I remember you prefer warm colors. I can’t tell if this yarn is warm or cool. If it’s warm, the peach give off a nice warm glow.
