One of the patterns I have for Addie’s doll is for Cowboy Boots. This first pair isn’t going to be the best but she’s going to be thrilled with them.
I made the first boot just to make sure I could figure it all out so today I have to make the second one, then glue the soles on. Hopefully by this evening, I’ll have a picture of finished boots.
I’m not happy about the thread not showing up well. I’m using hand quilting thread but I think with the thicker “fabric”, the thread sinks in too much. I’ve loosened the top tension and tried all the threads I have here to see if anything else worked better but nothing I have on hand works any better.
Last night on Facebook, friends suggested upholstery thread, Perle cotton and Superior’s Topstitch thread. I don’t think I can get any of that thread locally but I know I’m not going out any time soon. With coronavirus cases going up in Texas, and even in our area, we’re staying home. Mostly I’m concerned that I don’t want to get sick while Addie is here or when I still need to drive back to Missouri to get her home so I’m going to be a little more cautious than I would normally be. So, the thread on the boots is what it is and for now, that’s the best I can do. I have plenty of the fabric so when I do come up with a better thread option, I can make another a pair.
All that matters is that Addie loves them and that makes me happy.

Thread two threads though your top needle and see if that works. You are the best Granny!!

Perhaps you could colour the stitches with a marker or fabric dye pen.

You need a medal!

Higher contrast thread? Brown boots with white or black thread.
Dottie says
Maybe an off-white thread might show up better?!? It looks good so far.

I love the boot & think the thread & stitching you used is perfect! Addie is so fortunate to have you as her granny!

Was wondering what kind of fabric you used for the boots? It looks like leather! What a great job. I could never do something so intricate.
Susan Nixon says
Real cowboy boots are often like that. I don’t think the thread should overtake the boot leather.
