Our day started with scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and bacon.
Then I went out to sit and knit while Addie played outside. I’m thankful I’ve learned to slap things off me when I feel something crawling because after I got back inside, I felt something crawling on my neck, slapped it to the floor and it was a scorpion. Then Addie and I were going to sew and I stepped over a brown recluse spider by the door. Nine years ago, I would have been a basket case after seeing a brown recluse and a scorpion within 10 minutes of each other but it’s just another day in Texas now.
Addie was chomping at the bit to sew so last night we went through all my doll patterns and I convinced her that we should start with the Drawstring Dress pattern from Pixie Faire. Addie picked out “cheetah” fabric so I made the doll dress. Addie helped sew on it. She seemed interested in sewing and wanted to understand how the stitches were made so I showed her the bobbin and explained it as best I could but told her we’d watch a video on it later.
You can see the pillow Addie made sitting in front of the doll.
Then, Addie asked me to make her a dress like the doll dress. Hmm . . no pattern but I figured it was simple enough. I measured Addie, asked how long she wanted the dress to be and then I asked her to take off her t-shirt and I traced the armhole cutout to get the right shape.
She was so excited! She told me she was going to wear this dress to have her school picture made. We’re supposed to go back to town next week and she said she’s wearing the dress and bringing the doll and she’s wearing her dress and Addie wants me to make masks from the same fabric for all of us (me, her and the doll) to wear to town.
I had a whole bolt of the cheetah fabric. Addie wants me to make her all sizes of dresses so when she’s an adult, she can still be wearing the dress that matches the doll dress. Not so sure that’s going to happen.
I guess tomorrow I’ll be sewing on masks.

Thanks but just trying to make as many memories as possible.

Thinking back to memories of things I did with my grandparents, I can assure you that you are making memories for her.

So cute. She looks so happy 🙂

She certainly llooks like she’s happy!! After a couple of weeks, though, Grannie is going to be one tired Grandma!! (Ask me how I know…. – I just watched my grandson, age 4, for 4 days and it took two days to recuperate!) 🙂 Wouldn’t have missed it for the world, though. BTW, LOVE the fabric, too!!

A couple of weeks? One day while in MO and the first day here, I convinced her to take a nap with me. Yesterday we managed to make it through the day without a nap. I’ll have to drive her back to MO so I can’t get too tired before that long trip. After just two days here, I notice is really does take a lot of energy to keep up with her.

This is so cute! I am surprised that you do not have a matching dress. We call those pillowcase dresses.

So cute!

Oh that’s so cute and fashionable! But where are Addie’s No-snakes-scorpions-spiders boots? LOL
Judy Laquidara says
No such thing. The one on me feel off the porch ceiling. She does have her boots for the garden but when it’s 100+ degrees outside, boots are a bit hard to wear. I have caught her a couple of times outside with no shoes and that’s definitely not something she should be doing. Even flip flops help a bit when there are spiders and scorpions in the grass.

How wonderful to have something received so enthusiastically! Very cute girl and doll there.

I was just telling Vince this morning how fun it was that she was so excited. I think she was surprised I was able to make it since she’s not exposed to much sewing. She’s always happy to get the things I buy for her but she was downright giddy with those dresses yesterday.
Gayle Pearson says
Well done Grannie! A happy girl there. She is beautiful no matter what she wears and the doll looks impressed too. I look forward to seeing you all with your masks.
Congratulations on the scorpion combat. Living in New Zealand I can’t even imagine living with scorpians and snakes.
I really enjoy reading your daily posts. Thank you.

What a nice grandma! You should take a picture of you, Addie, the doll — all wearing the matching clothes and masks. There was a picture floating around my family of my mother, two sisters and a doll all wearing matching dresses. (I wasn’t born yet when the picture was taken!)

The last time I made a child’s dress and a matching doll dress was for a granddaughter;s confirmation when she was 7. She is 26 years old now. Love Addie’s and dolly’s outfits, especially the fabric.

You both did a great job on this!! I love how you made it and it looks so easy. No wonder she loves you! I used to make things like this for my niece and she loved it! Her brothers were a little jealous but they were not as sweet as she was!

She looks so happy with the new outfits and she is so cute. How old is she? I remember when she was born. Paula in KY

The dress can turn into a top as she gets taller. That is what my grand daughters did with theirs. Fun times !!

Great idea!

She looks absolutely adorable .. Sent you an email with what my granddaughter and I did (Casoppia@gmail) while she was here. She has picked up another Gma hobby besides sewing, quilting and crocheting.
Judy Laquidara says
Haven’t had a chance to read the link yet but it definitely looks like something Addie would love.

What a happy girl and doll!
Have fun!
Is she helping to cook and bake?
Judy Laquidara says
She does help and it’s fun having her in the kitchen.
