They checked everything on Cat and found nothing wrong. She got all the shots and vaccines and we have to keep her inside tonight. She’s awake from her anesthesia but groggy enough that she shouldn’t be out with all the wild animals tonight. She’ll sleep in the crate in the sewing room closet. This is the note that was on Cat’s crate.
I think that about sums up Cat’s disposition.
The vet recommended changing Cat’s food thinking maybe she just doesn’t like the food we’re giving her. He thinks she’s 6 or 7 years old and said “She’s really healthy!” I told him we shouldn’t really call her a feral cat since she stays outside all the time but goes into the shop to use a litter box when she has to do her business!”
Boots is fine. They checked him for everything and he was good too. The Bravecto for fleas really helps them not get worms. They all got everything they need hopefully for the rest of the year. I’ll have to buy more Bravecto before the end of the year. I think I have two for each of them but I have to put it on every three months.
We walked out of the vet and Vince said “Did I just spend $520 on two stray cats that showed up with us not even wanting cats?” Yep. Thank goodness he understands my desire to save every dog and cat.

All day I was expecting really sad results so I’m thrilled! Thanks!
Cathy Washburn says
Did you have her spayed?
Judy Laquidara says
She was spayed when she showed up here.
Cathy Washburn says
You were lucky!
Mama Spark says
Bless you both for your caring generosity! I’m glad they were both ok.
Nelle Coursey says
They are no longer feral cats!! They belong to you and Vince now! LOL I bet you could even get Cat back in the carrier and take her to MO or wherever you move to (if you move). But you would have to keep Cat shut up for a while so he/she would not try to come back to Texas!
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, I’m pretty sure I can get in a crate again and we can move her. We’ll have to have a “cat house” for her plus, if we don’t have a good bit of land, the neighbors may not appreciate her sitting on their cars.
Twyla says
Or does Vince and Judy belong to them?
Paula Philpot says
Is cat the one that showed up years ago and you had a hard time making friends with her but you finally got her to eat? Mayber she stayed around your car???? Paula in KY
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, probably six years ago, we kept seeing a black cat but could only get a glimpse of her. I would sit out for hours trying to get her to get her to let me pet her. We’ve made progress. She is loyal to one of us at a time. Right now, it’s me. She sits out in the driveway and waits for me to come outside. I can either sit down or squat down and she will come to me and let me pet her. Boots also showed up about 8 years ago but he was a little kitten and he’s never been anything other than loving and super sweet.
Mary M says
That wonderful you were able to get her in to the vet. I would love a dog again but the vet fee is exactly why I can’t ever have a pet again. I just have to enjoy family member’s pets when I visit.
Judy Laquidara says
Vet fees, along with heartworm meds and flea control – it’s really outrageous.
Sharon says
I’m really happy they are both healthy!
Jo Frey says
Hi Judy, off topic. 9 days ago I started sour dough starter. 3 days ago, I thought it might have died. last 2 days, its strong and healthy. Can’t wait til i start my first loaf tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration!
Susan Nixon says
I love Vince’s comment. It cracked me up. It made me wonder, too, why he doesn’t post on your blog any more. Too much like work? LOL I’m glad both cats are healthy. You better get a tranquilizer dart gun for next time, though, as I doubt Cat will fall for that twice.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, I think it was too much work for him. I’m hoping I can get Cat in the carrier if we ever move. Since the vet thinks she’s a fairly young cat, I’m guessing she’ll still be around when we move and I wouldn’t leave her here.
Anna-Karin Larsson says
So CAT is a girl ? is that definitely now? Love to you from Sweden
Judy Laquidara says
She’s a Tortoise Shell and there’s about a 100% chance that all Tortoise Shell cats are girls. She had a tipped ear when she came here, which usually means they’ve been spayed or neutered. There’s a “barn cat” program here where they trap feral cats,spay/neuter them, vaccinate them and then give them to farmers who want them to hopefully keep mice out of their barns. My guess is that she was part of that program but didn’t stay wherever she got released.
Rebecca in SoCal says
Sounds like Cat is so tamed that she won’t hunt even to supplement food she doesn’t like! Glad that she’s healthy, despite her skinniness.
I agree with Susan Nixon–I don’t think you’ll get her anywhere near that carrier again! Oh, that one pitiful mew! You’re lucky. I have a theory that cats have a special yowl they save just for cars (I usually was the one to take them to the vet.) It astonished John when we moved last time to be in a car with three cats! Fortunately, we were only going about one mile.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m not sure if tame is the word. I think it’s more like lazy. She will stand on the porch and meow, even loudly enough to wake us up, if we aren’t out filling her bowl early enough in the mornings.
Twyla says
So happy for all of y’all for the good news. You have such good hearts to take good care of all your pets.
Deborah says
Is Cat speaking to you today? Will she let you pet her?
