Yesterday Vince asked if I wanted to go out to eat today. I said yes, then I said “I’m not sure . . can I think about it?” Later I said no . . I didn’t really want to go out to eat. I haven’t been inside a building other than home since March 7 but I really am going to MO soon . . just not sure when. I’m probably waiting for the weekend to see if I feel safe going through cities and if things seem calm, I may go next week. So, I kinda felt the need to exit the safety of home and venture out into the world but yet, I didn’t really feel like going out to eat was an “essential” trip.
This morning, I woke up with a crazy idea but that doesn’t surprise Vince because it’s pretty rare for me not to wake up and say “Hey! You know what I was thinking?” Most of the time, he grunts and says “I hope it doesn’t involve more work for me” and usually it does. Today . . it does.
Addie, like most any 7 year old, loves doll clothes. I was thinking Vince could build her a couple of little wardrobe type things for her doll clothes so I grabbed a paper towel and drew out what I was thinking.
The thing near the top – that’s the bar for hanging clothes and my rendition of clothes hangers. Obviously, I cannot draw. At the bottom, there’s a shelf with room under it for baskets.
Baskets! What will you do for baskets he wanted to know. He needs to know what size the baskets will be before he can come up with dimensions for the wardrobe. Hmmm . . I don’t know.
Vince said “If you want to go to Zephyr to eat, we can go by Dollar Tree”. I think I saw baskets or bins there. Local folks . . yes, that’s what I thought too. Dollar Tree is nowhere near Zephyr but, by now, I was assuming Vince really wanted a Diamond R burger.
OK. I’ll go out to eat. In the three months that I have not gone out shopping with Vince, I’ve forgotten what it was like. Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, Burke’s, Aldi.
We got all sizes of baskets – lots of baskets. Actually, none of these were what I had in mind but they will work.
I asked Vince to build maybe three of the little wardrobes and he’s thinking about 24″ tall x 15″ wide (or just wide enough that three or four baskets will line up under the shelf. When Addie gets here, we can go pick out paint and she can paint them – all the same color or all different colors – whatever she wants to do. I think we’ll leave the “rail” not painted so we don’t have to worry about the hangers scuffing it up.
I ordered hangers last week off Etsy . . I don’t know why the idea of building the wardrobe didn’t occur to me then.

Judy, what a cute idea for Addie! Where did you get the boxes on the right with the snap on lids? Thanks!!
Judy Laquidara says
I think we got them all at Dollar Tree but I am not 100% sure.

Darn, When I first looked at the drawing I was beginning to worry a tad that you were hanging dolls by their hair in a closet. Phew. Glad to hear they are just hangers….lol. Looking forward to seeing them finished. Addie is going to be so surprised and thrilled.

I don’t know about other states, but I do know Governor Abbott said on 6/12 we will go into phase III and you can have as many as 10 people at one table. I am still very skeptical though! I am usually the one that is ready to get out and do things, but with someone at home who is in the high risk group, I will probably stay home longer. Going to my dr. next week and I will ask her opinion. I am so glad you are going to get Addie. Check with the Mo. state site and see what they say. Also other states you go through to get there.
Judy Laquidara says
I don’t think MO has any restrictions remaining. As far as OK, all I’m doing is driving through, stopping twice to get gas and they opened up before Texas did. I following the news on both states always so I’m good to go there. Just waiting to hear about the unrest.

A possible modification to the design – make four of the wardrobes. Then, connect two of them with a hinge on one side, a latch on the other, and perhaps a handle on the top. It will be a nice way to carry the clothes around. And down the road, she can make modifications so she can store some of you jewelry or whatever.
Judy Laquidara says
I’m afraid two together will be too heavy for her to manipulate. We’ll see what happens once he gets them built.
Susan Nixon says
That will be cute and she will love it. If you can find Barbie stickers, she could put some on the sides and you could put one final coat of clear stuff … shellac? over them to keep them on.

Great idea I took a child’s pull behind piece of luggage and turned that into a portable closet for all 3 of the granddaughters for their dolls. Easy and simple

What a great idea for Addie! She will love it! Can you tell me where you found the plastic boxes with the colored lids? Thanks!!
Judy Laquidara says
All those containers came from Dollar Tree.

Add caster wheels for easy rolling? The wooden wardrobes may be too heavy and cumbersome for her or her granny to carry.
P.S. Judy, our friends are bringing their Soda Stream to the lunch bunch dinner tomorrow. We’ll all get to try the imitation flavors. Maybe we’ll have time to make a syrup beforehand.
Judy Laquidara says
We’ll see. It’s only going to be about 15″ wide and 20-24″ tall.

Maybe put doors on them like closets and then she can carry and move with stuff falling out. We had doll trunks when I was a kid for our dolls. Almost every doll came with one.Vince could make her a doll house( for here favorite doll and 3d funiture ) like my grandpaw did for my Barbie doll in 1964. Showing my age here.
Judy Laquidara says
She has a really nice doll house that Nicole’s dad made for Nicole and her sister. I doubt he puts doors on them but I may get her one that’s plastic that she can close up and carry around.
