The plumber came. He’s a super nice guy. We had heard great things about him – Ed McMillian for my local friends. He tested everything and couldn’t find anything that looked wrong. He tested the draft. Had us run both showers for way longer than we actually take a shower and NOTHING happened. No increased level – it stayed zero. No smell – and I know CO doesn’t smell but something was smelling. He said there’s a regulator or something (I forgot what he said) that may have stuck and with him turning the dials and tapping on everything, it might have dislodged from whatever position it as stuck in.
We went outside, looked at the chickens, the garden, the solar panels. Gave him garlic. Shared some of the black garlic I had made. Showed him the garlic pot I use to make it. Came back in the house, ran the showers again . . still nothing.
Tell me . . how is it that the alarm has gone off with every shower we’ve taken since Thursday and now . . nothing!
He’s the lead guy – he comes out and investigates, then sends his crew to do the work. He recommended that we go ahead and change out the water heater, more for my peace of mind, so they crew will come back and change the water heater and replace our toilet seals.
Will I still be nervous about the water heater? Yes. And probably I’ll be nervous about the new one for a while. I will make double sure our CO detectors are working but it appears the problem is solved . . at least til we take showers tonight.

Hopefully, this will only be a faint memory and no more CO alarms will go off ever again.

I hope you’re right. I could use a good night’s sleep. We’ve been sleeping in another room and I don’t like that bed and keep waking up during the night wondering where I am and why I’m there. Last night, I kept struggling with my pillow. Couldn’t get it right, grabbed another pillow from the chair by the bed and somehow hit myself in the eye with the zipper. I don’t need any help hurting myself!

Isn’t that always the way – whatever (insert name) doesn’t work until expert is there
Carolyn says
that’s just crazy!

Ed is a good man. He does not overcharge. He is also on the City Council and was on there once before when Pat was on the city council. He cut one of his hands with a saw and that is why he can’t do the work. But he is good and I think his son works for him and Ed trained him well.

At least you can hope the new water heater doesn’t have the problem. Probably good until you move, at least. I like the idea they will change the toilet seals at the same time.
