I feel a bit evil when thinning peaches. This is how it happens every year. That first tree has so many peaches on it. I thin a few. It hurts to pull off peaches. It’s like throwing away yummy fruit but I know I have to do it. A few days later, I pass by the tree and realize there are still way too many peaches so I pull off a few more. That goes on for several weeks.
The other two trees that are by the house have peaches but they’re later getting ripe so they’re still very small even now. I pull a few peaches off . . until we pick the peaches on that first tree. Then I spend days processing those peaches. That is the point that I start enthusiastically pulling peaches off those other two trees.
Yesterday I was out out and I kept pulling peaches. Vince said “You’re going to pull them all off. STOP!” I wanted to say . . then YOU take care of putting them all up but I didn’t say that.
I did feel a bit guilty for pulling so many off. I need to stay away from the peach trees til I’m over having to spend three days . . almost all day each day . . putting up peaches.

It hurts tp pull off those baby peaches, but leavin 4-5 inches between each peach leaves room for the ones left to grow bigger!

The trees just can’t support that much growth so my preference is to thin then to 8″ but sometimes it takes me several sessions before I get to that point.

I always had trouble thinning the baby fruit. I knew it helped the ones left grow better, but, I always felt guilty.

We’re hopeless! 🙂

mmmmmmmm peach jam and jellies; peach salsa is all I gotta say !! lol
Judy Laquidara says
We don’t eat much jam and jelly. I do like peach salsa but I’ll use some of the bigger peaches that come in later to make that, when I have the onions harvested and jalapeno peppers to pick.
