My sourdough starter is rather active. I should have taken a picture but yesterday, I fed the starter like I always do, put it in a quart jar as I always do, went back into the kitchen a few hours later to put it in the fridge and it had overflowed and was all over the counter . . which it has never done.
We were supposed to have storms last night so I took a nap (sounds like a good excuse, right?) so I could stay up with Rita and Vince could sleep. While napping, I dreamed that the sourdough starter had slipped off the counter and oozed into the bedroom and was all over me and I couldn’t breathe. I was trying to wipe it away from my nose and mouth and was really fighting it when I slapped myself in the face and woke up. How crazy is that?
The sourdough bread dough (ferment) stays out all night and I’ve never had it overflow the bowl and it did that two nights in a row. I either need to use a larger bowl or reduce the amount of dough.
It’s kinda weird because the loaf bread rose and produced a really big, light loaf where the round loaf was the usual size and texture.
I just hope I don’t have any more attacks of the sourdough starter.

Oh, my! I laughed so much reading about your dream! One of my cats gave their “Come see what I brought you!” cry about 3AM this morning. I just went back to sleep, but I dreamed a baby rattlesnake was hiding under the couch. And I have never seen a rattlesnake around here.
Also, I agree with a reader on your sourdough sandwich bread post, you need to lead us step by step with your recipe,

I’ll do another post about it. You won’t believe how simple it is. It really is no fail!

I’m guessing you have not watched “The Blob” recently, but it sounds appropriate…LOL
Cilla says
I LOVED that movie as a child.
Judy Laquidara says
Have not watched it but it sounds like about what I was dreaming.
Carolyn Sullivan says
LOL now that’s a nightmare!
Marsha says
WOW now that is a dream!
Marie Gilkey says
Judy, Do I have to have a certain starter to make sourdough bread? I have no ground wheat or anything. Just all purpose flour.
Judy Laquidara says
I mostly only use all purpose flour.

That’s hilarious. I hope you don’t dream that again, and the bread doesn’t overflow for you again, either.
