Yesterday Vince was working on the side of the shop and out of the corner of his eye, he saw Cat acting crazy. He walked over there and she had a snake she was trying to kill. It wasn’t a poisonous snake but Cat ran when Vince walked over there and the snake was seriously injured so Vince killed it.
Speaking of Cat, this photo showed up on my Facebook memory today. It was posted 4 years ago.
I think she was on top of a little chicken coop we had that we used for a “hospital”. She is such a funny cat. Several days this week, it was so windy. We had gusts over 50 miles per hour. We have a big, heavy barrel type BBQ grill outside and the wind turned that thing over. One afternoon I was coming in from the garden and Cat was walking towards me. A plastic sack from the back of the RTV got caught in the wind and blew right past Cat. I wish I had a video. That Cat jumped about 3 feet off the ground and took off running into the woods. I thought we’d never see her again but she was back later that day.
So . . Cat found that first snake yesterday. It wasn’t really the first snake because I had already seen one a couple of weeks ago going across the driveway. Today Vince picked up a pallet and there was a rattlesnake under it. Vince came and got me to come see it and on the way back to the house we were wondering out loud how many snakes we’ll encounter this summer. Two in two days in early May . . not so good.
Vince said “Why does anyone live here?” We both laughed and I told him I ask myself that question every day. Then I said “Where else would we live that we would be as happy as we are here?” Vince said “I ask myself that question every day!”
No place is perfect. No matter how much I want to live close to Addie, there are so many reasons not to move there. First, they could move. Second, Addie is almost 8. I’m not sure I want to be close when she’s 13. Some things Granny just doesn’t need to know. Third and foremost . . Vince is NOT going to move to Missouri. He says “What is there about Missouri that makes it beneficial enough to me to pay state income tax?” Hmm . . Addie!!
As long as I can have my own little place there (and it’s safe to go!) and I’m ok driving there by myself and Vince is ok with all that . . we’re just fine where we are.
But . . you know that any day now I am going to open those egg boxes and find a snake in there and I may start running and not stop til I get to MO. No . . that won’t happen. I couldn’t run to the end of my driveway. I’m stuck in Texas forever! 🙂

I hope Cat doesn’t think that YOU made that bag fly at her!
I was picturing you running, but turning around at your gate to go get your car, and then hightailing it outta there!

Yes, I doubt I’d even make it as far as the end of my driveway. I worked out in the garden all morning and now I’m wondering if I’ll have the energy to take the food out of the freeze dryer this evening.

I hate hate hate snakes, but for some reason, I am always compelled to stop in and read up on your stories about them. I hate to think what that says about me! LOL!!! Keep safe from the slithery critters.

At least you know Cat has the snake instinct. I wouldn’t worry about non-venomous ones, except they probably still eat the eggs if they can get in there, but I wouldn’t be happy finding a rattler. He probably would be even less happy.
