There’s a three color shawl I’ve been wanting to make. I keep telling myself I don’t need another shawl but I still wanted to make it. Several months ago, I had pulled some yarn to start it and these were the yarns I was thinking about using.
I picked it up last night and cast one. The orange is Color #1, the white-ish looking one is Color #2 and the green one is Color #3. Color #2 is really a greenish white but it’s also a thinner yarn. Once I started knitting with it, I had doubts about whether I should use it with the other two and after about 8 rows, decided it wasn’t a great choice so I ripped back.
I found this mottled green/white that I thought would be great for Color #2.
It is working perfectly with Color #1.
But, when I get to the point where I’m working with Colors #2 and 3 only, there are spots where #2 is going to blend with #3.
Those two greens are going to blend and really mess up the pattern I’m trying to create so I’m going to have to go dig for some more yarn. I had a skein of grayish blue sitting next to my chair and I think something along those lines or even closer to a medium teal may be what I need. Brown would make it very fall-ish too. I’ll see what I can find in the yarn stash but all I know now is that I probably should have stuck with the original three colors!

Knitting can often be like cooking, start out with what you have and add this and that to your taste or heart’s content.

What you’ve knitted so far looks good, and the two greens together look fine to me, but it isn’t my sweater. There’s not as much contrast, but there’s still some.
