Vince went to bed before I did last night. Any time that happens, I know I’m going to be up way too late because it’s so hard for me to stop what I’m doing and go to bed but about 1:30 a.m., I put down the knitting and took my shower.
I went into the kitchen to get my water to take to bed and realized I hadn’t put the bread up so I grabbed a brown bag – they’re like an oversized lunch sack and I’ve always used them for sourdough to maintain the crunchy crust but yesterday’s loaf was too big. I thought . . I’ll just wrap it i parchment paper and tape it. Went and got the tape but it would not stick to the parchment paper. I figured the parchment paper had some kind of coating on it so I took two brown bags and was going to cut them apart, tape the two together and wrap the bread in that but the tape wouldn’t stick to the brown paper either. I think it’s time to toss that roll of tape! I went and got the packing tape. Solved that problem.
Then, when I went to turn out the living room light, I saw the red sweater I’m working on and I had wanted to check the gauge on that project because I’m going to use Rios on my next project. Grabbed the red sweater, took it to my knitting chair, measured the gauge, went to put the sweater back down and one of the needle tips had come unscrewed and was missing. Good grief! I went back to the project bag, took all the extra yarn out. No needle. I looked everywhere – even got the needle set out to see if I had found it months ago and put it back with the other needles. Nope. I looked in the chair. Nope, not there either. I sat back down to plug the tablet in for the night and heard something metal hit the floor. Found the needle!
Finally made my way to bed. I keep my Vicks Vapo Rub in the corner of Rita’s little bassinet. Got in bed. Very quietly! Trying not to wake Vince. Reached over into Rita’s bed to grab the Vicks. Not there. I began feeling around in the bed without turning on a light trying to see if I could find the Vicks in the bed. Nowhere! Turned lamp on, looked for it. Nowhere. I made my nest in the bed, tried to convince myself I could go to sleep without Vicks on my lips but that wasn’t happening so I quietly got up, went to the living room to get the bottle from by my chair. Went to get back in bed and found the original bottle near the foot of the bed. Poor Vince. By that time, he was awake and wanting to know what the heck I was doing.
My guess was he didn’t really want to hear about the bread bag, the missing needle and the lost Vicks so I just said . . you don’t really want to know . . and kinda laughed.

My thought about your late-late nights is: Do you still play that crazy game with the sun?!
Judy Laquidara says
I do but this time of year, Mother Nature wins more often than in the winter. I don’t sleep a lot though.

I always think we must be related, and this post seals it. You must be the sister that I have wanted for the last 20 years. I knew FOR SURE when you said you have to have Vicks on your lips at night and that you spent that much time searching for suff.
Judy Laquidara says
You can be my sister! 🙂
It’s funny because even Addie has Vicks by her bed and would bring her own when she would stay with me at the hotel. I’ve ruined her. 🙂

You crack me up, Judy! I don’t use Vicks, but I always have a soft lip chap tube by the bed, in the car, next to my chair, even by the quilting machine!
Judy Laquidara says
It’s a family thing for me I suppose. I can remember both my grandmas having in their purse, next to their bed, next to their favorite chair!
