We did our first Walmart grocery pickup this morning and it was great. Vince was really concerned about someone else choosing our bacon and our cucumbers but even he thought they did a good job.
Our pickup time was 7 – 8 a.m. so we left the house around 7.
The streets were empty but that’s probably not unusual around 7:30 on a Saturday morning. Can’t say that we’re were ever out much at that time of day on a Saturday.
Mostly what we got was dairy and fresh produce. I already had the Clorox wipes – that’s what we were using to clean the groceries. I got:
- celery – 2 packs
- butter – 6 pounds
- strawberries – 2 packs
- blueberries – 2 packs
- bacon – 6 pounds (2 packs of three different bacons)
- deli meat – 6 packs (2 packs of three different kinds)
- cherry tomatoes
- tomatoes on the vine – 4 pounds (mostly to make more fermented salsa)
- molasses (3 jars)
- cream – 2 pints and 2 half pints
- milk – 2 gallons
- chicken thighs – 2 packs
- lettuce – Romaine hearts
- cucumbers – 3
What I had ordered and didn’t get because they were out:
- Pork loin
- Pork chops
- Hormel turkey deli meat
Mostly, for things like deli meat, bacon and butter – things I expected to be in short supply from what I’ve been hearing, there were limits of 2 each so I ordered several different brands, two each, and all of those were in stock so I have bacon and butter for the freezer, though we use a lot of both of those.
I also didn’t really expect to get the pork loin or pork chops but thought it would nice if I was able to get them.
I’m 100% happy with the Walmart experience.

I ended up with 4 blocks of cream cheese, because I ordered all the brands they had, and got them all. I got 2 of 3 brands of frozen turkey, but 0 of 2 brands of chuck roast. Like you said the other day, it is something of a scavenger hunt. They did substitute a slow cooker pot roast kit from Tyson for a chuck roast, it contained a chuck roast, potatoes, carrots and celery. I just took it apart and will use the chuck roast for the recipe I had planned.

Your shopping sounds like mine. Order two and hope to get one. I figure I’ll use whatever I get and better to have two than none.

we did our second one yesterday, though the same thing. They did a pretty good job. we always pick lettuce with no brown but we just discarded what was brown.

We’ve had lettuce in the garden for at least five months so this is the first lettuce we’ve had to buy in a while. It looked ok in the package but I didn’t scrutinize it yet.

I did that last week and had good experience. They were out of my raspberry sparkling water but gave me double the amount I ordered of a different flavor.

I’ve not used WM grocery pick up but daughter who has husband, three children, AND a job is grateful for the service. Sometimes when they are out of a request they substitute the same of a better brand or kind no extra charge. Then once she got home and had 3-4 lbs. of ground chuck which was NOT on the list. She called the . to report and said she’d come back and return and they said not to…once it’s out of the store they don’t accept it back and she got it FREE. They don’t charge for their mistake either. But most of the time they have things just right. Saying this to say it’s an appreciated service and saves much time. We are retired and pretty much grocery shopping is the highlight of the week since the library is closed..ha. Will there be paper towels and tp in the store when we go. Pretty much. It’s a different world right now. And nothing in the sewing/quilting area. Since fabric/quilt stores closed for shopping inside everything has been picked and bought and I’ve not seen so many empty shelves in that department.

With the quantity of deli meat you bought, was wondering, do you freeze it? If so, how do you later use it?
Judy Laquidara says
It’s either the Walmart brand (Great Value) or Hillshire Farms and we’ve used both for years. No. We normally don’t need to freeze it. The expiration date is mid-June. I had bought two packs the last time we picked up groceries, which was about two weeks ago and we ran out of deli meat several days ago. With the homemade rolls, and especially working long hours in the garden, we’re eating more sandwiches than normal. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be ok to freeze it – just never have done it.

I’ve been interested in what people can’t get in different places. It isn’t the same everywhere, but it looks like you and Vince did pretty well.
Judy Laquidara says
It does seem to be hit or miss – different locations/different days.
