I had been in the sewing room and it was time to take the celery out of the freeze dryer so I turned off the freeze dryer, started the oil draining, went to the house to get jars for the celery. Vince came around the corner and said “I need your help”. I told him to give me 5 minutes to finish the celery.
Any time Vince is working outside and needs my help, I know it’s going to be a dirty job! Yep, I was right but it could have been worse.
He had been out tilling the garden and he had a tire completely off the rim. The tires were installed so that the valve stem was on the inside so Vince thought they were solid tires and had never put Slime in them. Now, one had gone flat and worked itself off the rim.
He fixed up some kind of way to hold the bottom of the tire on the rim, while he held the top of the tire on the rim and I was supposed to hold the little air thing on the stem. He kept moving the tire, I was an an awkward angle and the air supply thing kept slipping off the valve stem. He was getting frustrated and said “Can you hold it on there straight?” I wanted to say “Can you sew a straight seam?” but decided that was not the time or place! 🙂
We could not get it to work. I was thinking . . call one of those tire repair people who come to where you are on the highway. Put the tire out by the gate. They can fix it and leave it at the gate. But, I didn’t say that either.
I did say . . why don’t you order a tire and rim, connected to each other, then when it’s safe, we can go to town and get this one fixed and we’ll have an extra. Nope, not going to do that!
Then I suggested using something to kinda attach the tire to the rim while we get air in the tire. He tried some kind of silicone caulking but that didn’t work. Then . . he tried Slime.
It looks like we were putting green icing on the tire.
We both had slime all over us. Don’t let the picture fool you. He had already washed his hands and arms when I decided to take a picture. But it worked! He was able to finish tilling the garden with it.
Under normal circumstances, he would have run down to the tire shop and had them fix the tire. Not today . . I’m ready for “normal” to return.

The story and picture make me think of Stephanie Plum (by Janet Evanovich). That’s the kind of situation and mess she’d get into! 😀

That’s funny. Yes, probably similar. I always try to help when he needs me because he’s always willing to help me but my jobs are always easy for him. His jobs are not always easy for me.

I see us in this situation, too!

I had never heard of this slime stuff so I had to go to my friend Google and look it up. Interesting stuff.

We keep it in all our tractor, lawn mower, RTV tires because we have thorns that will puncture tires. Vince would have had it in the tiller tires but he thought they were solid.

My son swears by slime in his bicycle tires, and used it in his car tires a few times, too. His current tires are great and don’t need it. On the other hand, he’s out pulling the transmission and scraping rust off the bottom of the car. =)
