Yesterday morning I baked the Black Bread. This is the recipe I used but I did make a few changes.
If you look at the recipe, you’ll see it has coffee grounds. Some parts of it were made Saturday and left out overnight. I kept thinking . . I do not like coffee so when I started messing with it Sunday, I said no . . can’t use all that coffee so I only used about half of it and added a bit of extra water.
The black bread I was trying to duplicate was a bit sweet so I added some molasses and about 1/2 cup of brown sugar and, even with that, it didn’t seem sweet at all.
Vince liked this read best of the three I’ve made this weekend (Swedish Limpa Rye and Whole Wheat Sourdough). I think I liked the Swedish Limpa best.
I could taste the coffee in this but just a hint and in the reviews, people said they could taste it the first day but not the second day so maybe today I’ll like it better. I didn’t dislike it and I will make it again but I think next time I’ll use brewed coffee and only about half of what it calls for. Maybe I’ll add a bit of orange juice instead of water for the extra liquid. Who knows what I’ll do!
Anyway, my bread making experiments are over for a few days. We should have enough bread to last us at least til the weekend.

I couldn’t imagine using coffee grounds in bread. For myself, if I saw a recipe like that I’d probably just move on past it and never consider it at all. However, I do have a recipe for black bread that takes Instant Coffee grounds. I could deal with that because I know they’ll dissolve in water. I have yet to find a recipe for black bread that is like what I find at the grocery store. It’s a really dark brown and absolutely delicious! I especially love it toasted with the butter melted on it. Yum!! Haven’t had it in a long time, but I’m thinking I may have to look for it the next time I’m at the grocery store!

I look at the reviews and if they’re good, I’ll try anything once. You don’t notice the coffee grounds in the bread at all. In fact, you can hardly even find them. When I’m cooking or baking, I like to be a bit adventurous and most of the time it turns out good. Vince liked that bread better than the other two so this one turned out good.
There’s another recipe I want to try because though this one was good and I’ll make it again, it wasn’t as good as the one I’m trying to find.

Can you substitute Dr Pepper for the coffee? ?

I can’t say that I’m a fan of black bread anyway, so this is one I wouldn’t use. I never knew it had coffee in it, so I definitely won’t be eating it again. =)

I don’t know if I would like the coffee in it or not. I may have to try my hand at bread making some day! LOL

Is this like the bread that Black Angus has? I love that bread!

Not sure about Black Angus bread. It was the Chart House in New Orleans I’m trying to duplicate.
