We have 8 or 10 fig trees but none of them have done much except our original tree. In previous years, we have had figs coming out our ears but last year, we had that late freeze and I don’t know if it was that or not but we never really got any figs. I might get one or two every other day. It was just weird.
A couple of days ago, I realized there was hardly any new growth coming from the old wood, which isn’t normal. I think the fig tree is sick.
Yesterday Vince trimmed off a lot of the old dead wood and left only the areas that showed life. There are sprouts coming up from the ground but dang, it’s going to take forever for those to start producing and it probably means few figs this year. I was looking forward to having figs but, unless another tree produces, I’m afraid we aren’t going to get any figs again this year.

Wow that is too bad! I love figs too. It has been years since I had a nice juicy fig and probably would not know how to act! Hope you get a few to eat!

You may be surprised how fast it will grow especially since it looks like it has a good root system. My tree can easily grow 8 feet in s summer after being trimmed back. Wishing lots of gigs for you. We don’t eat our gigs but the chickens hang out under the tree and have lots of snacks.

We’ve had this one for 8 years and yes, they do grow very quickly but it isn’t acting right this year. There are shoots coming up from the ground but very little growth on the older growth. It’s only done this once before and we got very few figs that year. On a good year, we’ll get probably 20 gallons of figs from that one tree.
Lina says
Our fig trees did the same thing.
Susan Nixon says
I hope your other nine step up to carry the slack.
Judy Laquidara says
The other fig trees have never taken off. I get a handful of figs from each of them. They’re all Brown Turkey figs where the big one is a Black Mission.
