At least once a day something happens here that reminds me of the book, “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie”. Today it started with my needing a lamp on my side of the bed.
Most nights Vince goes to bed before I do. There’s a lamp on his side of the bed. He leaves the lamp on and when I come to bed, if I didn’t already wake him up, I say “I’m here!” and he turns off the lamp. I never get up during the night but he often does, so he needs a lamp on his side of the bed but I never have really needed one. I do read a lot in bed but it’s my Kindle Paperwhite so I don’t need a lamp.
But, while cleaning, I came across this book, Flour Water Salt Yeast, which I’ve had for several years.
I don’t know why it’s never interested me much before but now I want to read it and there are lots of stories, educational type info – not just recipes but about the only time I have to read these days is in bed and . . I don’t have a lamp.
I thought . . I can add the Google Home Mini so I can listen to music if I’m in the bedroom by myself and, instead of Vince leaving his lamp on til I get there, I can turn it on with my phone before stumbling through the dark bedroom and then when I’m done reading, I can either turn it off with my phone or say “Hey Google – turn off the lamp!”
I knew we had an extra Google Home Mini with a lamp setup that I had planned to take to MO . . whenever that happens next!
I remembered that there was a small lamp in the sewing room that I never use so I went and got it. Plugged it in, looked and it takes a little candelabra type bulb so the Google bulb wouldn’t work. Took that back to the sewing room, got a lamp out of the extra bedroom. Plugged it in . . dang it! It has a small bulb too. Took it back to the bedroom. Went to the other bedroom and grabbed one of the lamps from that room. Yay! It worked.
That was a heck of a lot of trouble just to get a lamp working so I can read a book about how to make bread.

Another thought for you. I get these things at Walmart. They are 3 outlets and one control fits standard plugs. You plug in outlet and what you want to come on. Like a lamp. They can be anywhere. Then you take control and turn off and on. I use for all my lamps and the lights about the cabinet and Christmas lights everywhere you name it. Where I don;t have to be close to turn off and on. I did it because hubby kept braking the turn on light switches. No just uses control. I put hangers but the room(door) where these are or carry in my pocket and use all the time. I’ve given them to older people to use so when come in front door or bedroom they have switch in pocket or hung by door. Cost is like $12.99 Just a thought

We do have some of those but Google Home works so much easier. I can pick up my phone from anywhere and say “turn on Christmas tree” or “turn on bedroom #2 light”. Or, I can just say to the Hub in the kitchen . . turn on Christmas lights! I feel like it’s not a great iea to let Google control my life but it surely is easy.

I just ordered that book about a week ago. I gave it to my son for Christmas a few years ago and he loves it. My younger daughter keeps borrowing it from the library so I decided it was time for me to have one too! Can’t wait for it to arrive!
