When I come up with the titles, I’m so tempted to make up a whole story. There are so many things I could think of to write about . . Vince and the UPS guy. Of course, they would all be made up but in my head, it’s funny.
We have a gate at the end of the driveway at the highway and it has a solar powered opener. It opens by punching in a code or using a garage door opener. When we first moved here and had to put in a driveway and the gate, many were surprised that we were putting in a gate but it’s rare to see a driveway without a gate here – out in the country. You don’t see them in the city, of course.
But the gate at the entrance is always closed but the gate in the picture is near the house – not real close but . . anyway, in 8-1/2 years of living here, we’ve never closed that gate. It’s mostly for keeping cows from coming up to the house but we don’t have cows so . . the gate is never closed. But, recently, Vince installed a bit of security and we’ve been closing that gate once we know UPS and Fed Ex aren’t coming.
This morning we sat down to eat breakfast and we heard UPS coming. Vince jumped up and ran (walked briskly!) to open the second gate.
UPS Guy: Did you get cows?
Vince: No. I keep it closed because the wife keeps trying to run away!
Where does he come up with this stuff? He said the UPS guy cracked up – not that it was so funny but so totally not the answer he was expecting!

Hahaha!!! At least you know he’s still got a quick wit! I’d probably die laughing if my hubby had come up with that.
Linda Ivy says
Thanks for a good laugh.
Dottie says
LOL, LOL. Thanks for the laugh!!
Sharon McCurdy says
That’s hilarious! Thank you! We all needed that.

I’m surprised that the UPS guy knew that the second gate was for keeping cows away from the house.
About hearing the UPS guy coming – I live on a dead-end street and we can hear everyone coming – UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, Amazon. They each have a different sound based on size, type of truck, and speed. The USPS truck just squeaks from the stop/start sequence.
One thing I realized was the lack of airplane & helicopter noise as well as sirens. I guess the reduced travel is making things safer. I don’t see/hear the bombers and AWACS coming in & out of Tinker AFB. And the jet training sessions at the other AFB must be reduced since they are not buzzing over.

I think most everyone who spends much time in this part of the country knows about keeping cows away from your house. Besides the obvious reasons, in Texas, whatever part of your property around your home that’s fenced to keep the critters out is what your homestead exemption is based on. I think there’s a limit . . like you can’t fence your entire 1000 acres (we do NOT have 1000 acres) and claim it for a homestead exemption – maybe 5 acres is the limit. But, we’re some of the few people with a bit of land who doesn’t have cows.
We’ve heard planes for Dyess a couple of times but you’re right . . it’s quiet.

Vince can come up with some good ones!
Pam says
Vince would be in trouble if you did run away. Love his wit.
Stephani in N. TX says
Less airplane noise, but more lawnmower noise, Spring arrived while we had our eyes on the virus.
Nelle Coursey says
At least he still has his sense of humor. In this day and time I do not blame you one bit! Double security!
Rosalie says
Reading this in bed- husband asleep- laughed so hard I nearly woke him up!
cassews says
Ohhh that is funny !!!
Kay L Ford-Sollimo says
I’m in the “made me laugh out loud” crowd! Is it your cooking that makes him want to keep you trapped?
Judy Laquidara says
Well, I’d like to think there’s more to it than that but probably it’s the cooking.
