April 1 we picked up groceries at Brookshire’s. It’s the first time we’ve been out; the first time we’ve ordered groceries online and today they announce that an employee of Brookshire’s has tested positive and anyone in the store March 28, 29 or 30 is asked to self-quarantine. We weren’t in the store, I’m not concerned but reading it did make me break out in a cold sweat before I came to terms with the dates/time lapse from the time we picked up our groceries.
The main thing I needed was celery. I read the article about the employee to Vince and he said said “If I get it and I die, you can put on my tombstone . . Died for Celery!”
He made me laugh when I was about to cry.

Thanks for the chuckle Vince!!!!!!

It’s always good when you can turn fear into a laugh! At least you’re being smart, in not going into the store to get the groceries!!
We were out of bread so yesterday I made two loaves. No idea what happened, since I make this recipe all the time, but it sure didn’t work out this time. It didn’t raise like it should have, so took a lot longer than normal and it doesn’t taste or have the same texture as usual. I’ve made it so much I don’t even need the recipe anymore, so I know I made it correctly…. Strange, but we’re still eating it, so I guess we’ll survive. Better than going to the store! :–)

Exactly! We would eat it too. Hurry up and eat it all and make more! 🙂

We ordered take out last night for the first time since this all started. Husband last went out anywhere last Friday, so a week since he could have been exposed. He is very careful and only went out for groceries and a trip to the doctor that he could not postpone. Now I feel nervous and scared about getting take out. We were very careful with it, used gloves to open it, put the food on plates, minimally touched the containers, wiped down the counter, washed hands, etc. I know I am being irrational, but these times, who knows?
Judy Laquidara says
I understand. We went to pickup groceries curbside and I’m counting down days til the incubation period is over — assuming we even know the incubation period.
I’m like you – I’d love to support local businesses but it just isn’t worth it for me. I have a hard time eating out in good times and there’s no way I can do even takeout now.
I heard this morning that people don’t even have to cough or sneeze on you — just talking can transmit it. Every day things change and what we thought was safe yesterday isn’t safe today. We’re staying home!

I feel like Tee. We’ve done take-out a couple of times – also very careful. We’re wanting to support our local (and favorite) restaurants so they can stay in business. Life is so stressful right now. I’d like to be laying on a beach with my knitting and books until this passes. LOL

I stop and consider which restaurants are likely to be the “cleanest” and likely taking the most care. I know they all are trying, but in a few places, the managers seem very young and I wonder if they are being quite as particular as some of the more mature managers appear to be. That probably makes me sound horrible, but I have to go by what I have seen when I have been there in person in the past.
Judy Laquidara says
The fact that the disease is so contageous even before symptoms appear or some people never have symptoms. I think everyone should do what they feel is safe and it doesn’t make you sound horrible any more than me not leaving the house til this is over makes me sound horrible. Maybe it does . . but I’m doing what I feel is safe.
Another thing I think about – what IF (slim chance but possible) we got in a car accident while going to pick up food and ended up in the ER with all this going on. Yesterday Vince asked yesterday if I wanted to drive down south a bit and look at wild flowers and I said no . . not something I want to do.

I worry because I still have to go to work. Not daily, but we have to get some things done to generate income so we can pay employees.. Just straight there and straight back but I still run into people; not close but you never know. At this rate, I will never be in quarantine for 14 straight days. Life in 2020. Who knew?
Judy Laquidara says
I saw a funny thing on Facebook that said “Glad I didn’t waste money on a planner for 2020!” True . . all plans are out the window so far this year. Stay safe.
Nelle Coursey says
Evidently she was in the deli/bakery area and never left there on the days noted. So unless you went there you are most likely safe. I feel very sorry for her and her family. Praying she is ok.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, they posted last night that she worked in the deli but then today they had watched videos and said the 10 employees on quarantine were the only ones she had contact with. I do hope she recovers and I feel bad for Brookshire’s. This wasn’t their fault and some people are being really hateful about them.
