Comparing Prices

Yesterday I made a new bread recipe . . I’ll do another blog post about that. Vince loved it and said “This is the bread I want you to start making.” Easy for him to say! It calls for caraway seeds and dill seeds. I had small containers of both but the recipe calls for 1-1/4 teaspoons of each so I went to Walmart online searching for more caraway and dill seeds. Thankfully, those don’t seem to be on the shopping lists of many folks because they were in stock.

I did a little math. Either my math is wrong or this pricing is crazy. I get that larger containers are less per ounce than smaller containers but this is absurd. Look at the caraway seeds. A small container .9 oz/$4.52. Larger container 16 oz. for $10.90. It would take 17.78 small containers, or $80.35 to equal 16 oz, which you can buy for less than $11. Same brand! It barely takes over 2 small containers, or 1.8 oz, to cost about the same as the 16 oz. container. This is the bad thing about math . . it makes me want to calculate everything.

Even before this, when I was shopping, I’d be looking at everything and calculating.

I can buy in bulk from various herb/spice places and probably pay even less but for the amount I’ll use, the 16 oz. container will be fine. Some day this virus mess is going to be behind us and we’ll be back on our diets and not eating bread every day.
