Lately, I’ve felt like I’ve aged quickly. It’s almost comical the way things have happened this week. I don’t feel like I’m paying less attention, or taking more risks but dang it, I’m going to hurt myself if I don’t be careful.
The sewing chair at my 301 table is as cheap, lightweight rolling chair. I told Vince tonight that I’m getting rid of that thing . . really . . before I hurt myself. It’s sitting on a mat and that chair had dumped me twice in a few days. The first time, I was sewing and when I backed up to sit down, it just went rolling and I could feel myself falling. I wasn’t hurt. Someone mentioned holding it while sitting and that’s what I’ve been doing because it almost happened a second time.
I have a habit of sitting right on the edge of the chair. Yesterday I was sitting on the edge, leaving over sewing and I felt it scooting away quickly. It almost dumped me again but I just stood up as it went scooting away.
The first thing I’m doing when I go over there is getting rid of that chair!
I use a super sharp pair of small scissors at the machine. Somehow, I stuck them right into my hand the other night – on the side of my hand below my pinky. It didn’t really bleed but it grossed me out to see those scissors hanging out of my hand. It left a little hole.
My favorite Olfa cutter is in MO. I took it and a rotary cutter and a few rulers so Addie and I could sew but we didn’t. So, at home, making the masks, I’m using one of the Martelli cutters. It was totally my fault because I didn’t close it, but last night my finger brushed across it and I got a decent little cut. I grabbed a paper towel and wrapped it, sat down at the computer to finish up something I’d started before I went to the house to get ointment and a bandaid. Looked down and it had bled through the paper towel and there was blood all over my keyboard. That’s probably worse than spilling Dr. Pepper on it!
I went to the house, cleaned it up, put ointment on it, grabbed a bandaid. It quit bleeding and will be fine.
I’m up to date on my tetanus shot – have to be living out here because we’re always getting cuts and scrapes. I will wear gloves plastic gloves over it while working in the garden til it heals. Don’t need any dirt or critters that live in the dirt making it infected.
I need to be more careful . . and I will be!

Be careful Judy!

I’m trying! 🙂 I might be so scared of needing medical attention that I’m being too cautious and becoming a clutz, or more of a clutz than I was already.
Carolyn says
I have been using my “clutz” glove when using my rotary cutter. I’ve had it for years, but never used it much until recently. Better safe than sorry!
Judy Laquidara says
At the rate I’m going, I should probably get one for myself.
Gale says
Judy, so sorry to hear about your accidents. Trust me, there is NOTHING worse for your keyboard than spilling Dr. Pepper on it. I know because I did it, and as soon as it dried everything stuck and I had to buy a new keyboard.
Judy Laquidara says
I know . . I read about it and read it to Vince because I’ve ruined several notebooks with Dr. Pepper.

If something is making problems, out it goes. I realized the three times I tripped and half killed myself were all wearing one pair of shoes, so out they went. No tripping since then! That chair can easily be replaced, and it doesn’t even have to roll.
