You all know I don’t have enough flour. The other night I was killing time . . trying to stay awake. I always fight going to bed and have to be to the point where I can’t hold my head up before I’m willing to go to bed.
I decided to check Target online and see if they had any flour. They did! They had a 5 pound bag and a 2 pound bag so I placed both in my cart. They have free shipping with a $35 order. Hmm . . what else can I buy?
I needed the paper muffin cup liners but they didn’t have any. They did have heat resistant silicone muffin cup liners so I added those but I needed more to reach $35. Dang . . I knew there were things I could use. I wasn’t going to order anything just to spend $35 but, depending on how long this goes on, there are things we’ll need or, at least want. I decided I’d get some muffin mixes.
I ordered two each – Wild Blueberry, Lemon Poppy Seed and Orange Cranberry. That got me to $35 so I could have free shipping.
Here’s the funny part – The next day I got a notice that the 2 pound flour wasn’t in stock and they were canceling that. The next day I got a note that the 5 pound bag of flour wasn’t available and they were canceling that. So, all I ended up getting were the things I ordered just to get free shipping for the flour!
There’s the Lemon Poppy Seed muffins with the new muffin cups. We’ll appreciate having the muffin mixes but I really needed that flour!

And you had to pay the shipping??? I have this happen occasionally. Enjoy your muffins. It’s been a week since I’ve been to the store and still don’t need anything, so I’m not going. This “shelter in place” is toying with my emotions. I’m missing my kids and grandkids. Knowing that you are not supposed to travel and expose ourselves (I’m 70) is the hardest part of being isolated. We do get outside and walk the dog for about an hour when the weather permits, but today it’s raining like cats and dogs; so, it’s laundry day today.
Stay well, Judy and Vince

NO! I did not have to pay the shipping. Because my initial order was over $35, I got free shipping, even though the amount that got shipped was only about $28.
Today it’s been 12 days. We aren’t out of anything but I’m missing some fresh veggies. I have plenty of frozen and canned veggies but like you, it’s the idea that I just should not go out that’s making me want to go out.

Isn’t that always the way things go? I’m at the point now that I need to open my 25-lb. bag of flour the next time I bake something. We won’t need bread for probably 4-5 days, so we’re good. I do have the ingredients to make a copycat recipe for Sam’s Club blueberry muffins, so I’ll probably make those today. I’ve been eating peanut butter toast for breakfast lately and getting tired of that.
The funny thing is I’ve been after hubby for several years to get a small chicken coop so we could have some eggs without having to go to the store, but so far that’s been a waste of breath. He always has an excuse… Now I’ve been telling him, “I told you so!” but that’s not working either. I may have to break down some day and just do it myself!! 🙂
Judy Laquidara says
Or, you could go buy baby chicks and keep them in the bathroom. I’m betting after a month or so, he’d be glad to build a chicken coop. But . . don’t tell him I told you to do that! 🙂

I just ordered some White Lily flour from Food Service Direct. It cost more for shipping, but it’s flour that isn’t sold in Utah even in pre-virus days. Besides, desperate times call for lots of southern biscuits!
Judy Laquidara says
I agree. I paid shipping on an order I could have gotten for free if I had ordered more stuff but I was afraid I’d get cart jacked if I waited. I do love White Lily for biscuits but have given up trying to keep several types of flour.

Do you really like the silicone muffin cups? I’m been thinking about getting some.
Judy Laquidara says
I am not in love with them. I’ve had them before and gave them to Nicole. For one thing, I don’t put them in the dishwasher and they always feel greasy to me. I wash them and then end up washing them again. If you can get over the greasy feeling, I don’t have any issues with them. Even with the papers, my muffins sometimes get a bit darker on the bottom than I prefer but with the silicone cups, they don’t seem to get darker on the bottom so . . I guess I should learn to love them.

King Arthur has all purpose flour
Judy Laquidara says
They’ve been out for weeks. I’m on the “send me an email when it’s back in stock” list and haven’t had any emails. I check it daily — several times a day in fact.
They really are out of every kind of flour. When I ordered last, I got probably the last 5 pound bag of all purpose and they were out of bread flour and the 10 pound bag of all purpose, as well as whole wheat. I did get some durum and Italian flour for making pasta but now, they’re out of that too.

I did not like the greasy like silicone muffins containers either & gave them to my grand daughter! She loves making play doh baked goods in them & they also serve as feeding bowls for her dolls! Now her play doh doesn’t get stuck in paper liners & she doesn’t run out of bowls!
Judy Laquidara says
Thank you! I’m not the only one who feels like they’re greasy!

I use my silicone muffins for the truck and car in the cup holder, when they get dirty I just wash em and plop em back in the cup holder. Especially good when a cup leaks
Judy Laquidara says
Good idea. I can remember having those cup holders get pretty dirty. Now we use our metal insulated cups – the Walmart knock off brand. We always have one with is in the car with water and if we do get a different drink, we dump the water, pour whatever the other drink is into the insulated cup. Those don’t sweat and with the tight fitting lids, they don’t usually spill either.

In a way, that’s kind of funny – you did get the flour, only not in a form you could use it. LOL
